Indy dropped by yesterday and we played a quick scenario he made for FT Java
(which I need to get running on my Mac. It was NAC vs. ESU with a
non-head
to head setup (ESU BB's jumping int midfield with NAC BB's and CL's facing
away in two groups at either end). I ended up winning with four crippled BB's
(all on their last damage row, two within 5 hull of dead) vs a heavy damaged
Victoria. Three things of note:
1) Indy went 9 for 12 on P-torps, averaging over 3 pts on each hit.
2) With those Ptorps and beams, Indy scored 3 double thresholds on ESU BB's
(fortunately for me never on the same BB). 3) I'm going to try to bring my son
to ECC to roll dice for me. The game was won (IMO) by critical initiative wins
I credit solely to him. To wit: Indy rolled a 5 on his initiative roll. I tell
Zev to roll a six, he rolls a six. Repeat about 3 more times. Plus he enjoys
rolling 5's and 6's with beam dice.
You are pure evil...

Runs in the family then huh?;)
Good to see Indy was actually getting some hits in though;)
Have fun

Is this a phase change? Maybe Aaron and Indy are swapping talents?
> I tell Zev to roll a six, he rolls a six.
I think Zev has it better. I let him roll as many dice as he could fit in his
hands (8 max I think). The nice thing about playing with a 4 year old is that
they get to shout "Six! Six!" with the unmitigated glee you've taught yourself
to refrain from displaying as a polite and
sprotsman-like adult. Well, "nice" would be the term only if said
four-year-old is on _your_ team. Sorry Indy.
> Good to see Indy was actually getting some hits in though ;)
Yep. As I said, I think it came down to initiative wins in the end. We (Indy
and my team) both landed some strings of sixes that turned a 2 point plink
into a 6 or 8 point nightmare. Indy landed, I believe
P-torp pairs for 8, 9, and 10 ponts. Both of us at different times
ended up just outside each others' strongest arcs.

We may just be fleshing out the full parameter space. I think Aaron and Indy
catalyze each other in opposite directions, with the effect reduced or absent
without the other present.

Yes, Zev was amazing. The first time we "discovered" his power was after a
series of him beating me on initiatives and then blasting heavy hits into my
ships. I don't remember what the circumstance was (I think initiative?), but I
said "Roll a 1", and he did. Thereafter Noam overroad my suggestions and said
to roll a 4 or 5 or 6 (depending on whether it was initiative or beam fire)
and invariably Zev would do exactly that. It
hurt, lemme tell ya. ;-)

Agreed. There were more than a couple times that if I had had initiative I
could have actually destroyed an ESU ship before losing half the available
firepower facing it.

I remember doing two 9-point rolls. I remember doing a 4-point
roll. I don't remember a 10-point roll (not saying it didn't
happen; just saying brain too full to contain all details :-/ ).

Noam neglects to mention that at least half of those crippled
BBs had a lot of weapons left. ;-) Only one had screens down
(which played a heavy roll in some of the NAC fire against
screen-active ships, when I rolled strings of 4s).
The NAC commander looked over the situation and realized there was no way that
he could escape (FTL shot out) and to continue fighting, even against 4
crippled BBs, was folly (esp as mentioned above, they still had a fair number
of weapons available; also,
they were getting into the NAC BB's aft-arc). At least one of
the CLs managed to FTL out and contact the local NAC naval base to advise them
of the situation. The NAC may have lost the fight, but there would be enough
reinforcements sent out to deal with
the 4 ESU ships (assuming they stuck around for a while ;-).
