The Alarishi Empire battlecruiser Alacrity has 101 mass, weak hull,
therefore 20 hull boxes and 6 DCP. Following the instructions, we
divide 20 by 6 to get 3.33 and round up to 4. We put DCP's in hull boxes 4, 8,
12, 16, 20....and that's the last hull box, with one DCP left to go. Where do
we put it?
a) put DCP's in 4, 8, 12, 16, 19, 20 (stuffing that last one in at the end) b)
put DCP's in 4, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20 (for intervals of 4, 4, 3, 3, 3, 3) c) do
something else
I sincerely hope this is an academic question, by the way--with 2 Beam
4's and Thrust 8, I'm hoping never to let the enemy in range to hit me.:)
G'day,

Well I'd go with this one, or maybe put them in 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 20
(though probably your a) option is the better of the two).
Hope that helps.

With this sort of odd split, where you end up with 2 CFs at the same point,
it's probably best to keep fractions when counting hull boxes, so they're
spread evenly. This would give:
3,7,10,13,17,20.
[oo*oo/o*oo*/oo*oo/o*oo*]
If you bias the placement, it affects your DC capabilities (as if a mass
101 ship doesn't already) ;-)

That is quite specifically not what the rules say, however.

That's logical. The rules as given seem to favor putting the DCP's a little
more towards the bottom of the hull chart, which is why I figured 4 8 11 14 17

Actually I designed it to be efficient for the drives and hull; the free DCP
was a happy but unintended bonus.

My call would be (b), but at 3,3,4,3,3,4
(Okay, I know I'm a bit behind. Deal. ^_- )

armor box, but it's a bit... odd.
Personally, I think that if two DCPs overlap on the hull boxes table, your
ship is most efficiently run with the smaller crew, and you lose the
"overlapping" crew factor. If you're going to squeeze that much to get a
teeny extra... you might as well lose out on the free stuff. ^_^

It's an effect of rounding hull and engine Mass separately instead of adding
them first... you can gain up to two "free" Mass for equipment
in some hull/engine configurations in this way, while losing as much in
others <shrug>
