The biggest game I've run PBeM was 10 players with 4 alternates with about 20
ships total. Preferably, I like to have at least 4 players per side, as it
allows for having a player away or sick.

My biggest PBEM was about 6000 points a side and 6 or 7 players a side. Not a
good place to start. Indeed, start small and refine your tools and techniques.
Hello All:
Heh... the average game played by my old FT group would consist
of 8-12
players, each fielding a fleet of almost 5000-6000 points! Of course,
most of those ships would be 100% pure Wisconsin Cheddar.
You need LOTs of A Batteries when you have three screens on all your
opponent's ships!

That's precisely what they did. Anyone, like myself, who would try to use
"traditional" fleet structures would get run over by a fleet of
ships averaging 80-100 MASS, with thrust 6-8, and carrying level 3
screens and up to 10-13 A batteries.

...and this kind of designs is of course the very reason for the Fleet Book
system, where high thrust and strong screens both cut deeply into
your firepower and the Class-3 is about an even match for the Class-2.
No wonder the players Mark is talking about don't like FB <G>
Best wishes,
