Subject: [FT] Gothic Conversion

Hello!

I am attempting to do yet another Battlefleet Gothic conversion to Full
Thrust. I've managed to do much of the conversion, but am stymied at a couple
of systems:

The first is the Lance. I had thought to model it kinda like the continuous
beams in Babylon 5, but unfortunately, I can't find a copy of the Earthforce
Sourcebook, nor can I find conversion rules that allow me to convert to
Fleetbook standards.

Next, is the eldar. How to point cost their Holo-Fields? I like the
Concept of the Minbari Jammer, but again, I'm lacking Fleet Book construction
rules.

Any suggestions are more than welcome on this effort. I know its been done
before, but my web searches have actually found very little on Gothic Thrust,
and what I have found didn't meat my needs for a conversion, in that I don't
want to have to create a whole lot of new systems, and would really like the
conversions to drop in with any other FT FB ships.

Being fairly new to Full Thrust, I'm also not gifted with one of the rare
copies of More Thrust. I have seen reference to a FB3, or even FT3, but wonder
if this is myth, or soon to be. It seems I am missing some of the rules. Is
there any way to get the missing information, or better yet, a copy of the
book?

I had intended on lurking a bit before posting, just in case the FT3 thing had
been done to death, but what they hey, you only live once....

...perhaps...

Welcome to the list.

The EFSB beam weapons are fatal. Way beyond the damage of BFG lances. There's
several versions floating around; check out Skunkworks on the webring (address
was listed several days ago) or my own site below.

Minbari jammer is not covered in FB2; you'd be best look at the Babylon
Shipbuilders guild (you can find links off the UFTWWWP, check webring again).
I haven't touched EFSB since 97, when I converted it to FT2.

FT3 & FB3 are forthcoming products; they'll be out sometime this millenium
(Jon keeps telling us "They're ready when they're ready & not before.")
If you've got FB1/2, this supersedes most of the MT stuff, except for
exotics like capital ship missiles, cloaking fields, reflex fields and a few
other genre specific things.

I see that, thanks. Not finding the skunkworks listed in the webring.

On your site I see you have it as AECM, Mass 3, 30 pts. I can't get More
Thrust, so I don't have access to the ECM rules, if they're even in use
anymore?

On the beams, I had intended on keeping them fairly restricted. Say limited to
1d6 per 2 firepower in BFG or something like that. I haven't worked out all
the balance issues yet, since I haven't found some basic FT mechanisms
yet for everything. Thing is, I love the ship models, and even like a
lot
of the conception behind the weapons/technology of the fleets, but I
can't stand the game mechanics themselves.

Thanks!

ECM isn't used very often, as the sensor rules need reworking (due in
FT3).

For effect, one possibility is to treat a Jammer as causing limited
targetting similar to dust clouds in MT. This requires a "lock-on" roll
with the firecons. Assign weapons to specific firecon and then, if you roll
a 4+ for that firecon, the weapons assigned can shoot at the target,
otherwise, bad luck.

The simplest lance conversion is probably to treat lances as pulsetorpedoes.

With a change to alternating squadron movement (as per Man'O'War) & an
overhaul of the missile/lance rules (completely stuffed in my opinion),
it does play OK.

Not sure about the Lance, but there are alot of beams out there. As for the
Holofield, there are two versions of it up on the
Weapons/Defense
Archive. You might find something there among the nearly 50 weapon systems you
could use as a Lance as well.

This is also the Skunkworks link Brendan was referring to. (It also has at
least one version of the Minbari Jammer from one of the EFSB conversion sites)

I like this, and it matches the Minbari Jammer I found somewhere, but I
couldn't find a point cost for it.

I'd thought about that, but they don't quite work the same way, besides, pulse
torpedoes were my simple answer to the torpedoes.

Excellent! Thank you very much. This may be just what the Doctor ordered.
