Greetings one and all!
I am attempting to restart my FTSC project. My 2 years of freakin Software
Engineering design projects are finally at an end, meaning I might at last
have time for my personal projects.
I have a few things to fight through which could seriously delay any attempts,
but I figured I'd just let people know what I intend to do on the project, and
to see if interest still exists.
So my intentions are:
1) Find the passwords to my website and revamp it - might not happen (I
prefer
to do the actual program, and I don't know where the passwords are :-/
hehehe) 2) Have worked out most of the high level concepts of the program,
currently
detailing it and checking it - slow and _painful_ atm... keep finding
problems 3) Publish the Visual Basic "prototype" that I created of the new
version about 2 years ago
Currently the features will be:
1) Developed in Java so cross platform support (i.e. run on OS X, Win +
Linux)
2) Support for FB1 + 2 + your own designs
3) A more useable and rapid interface - already designed, just needs to
be coded (is in the prototype) 4) A more stable and reliable backend, thanks
to Java libraries mostly done
already (just waiting on my finishing of the design) :-p
5) A gui based tool for developing your own "plugins" to add custom systems
and such like
But as with most SE projects - expect this to go other time, and to
exceed the budget of coffee and junk food.
I have my last exam on Monday, and then it should be all systems go -
once I sober up.
Cheers,

Even FB4 was 6 minutes late - fortunately I'd got an extension.

Good Luck, Take No Prisoners. My own last exam for my Master's was last
Tuesday. One thing that should cheer you up: I can state from personal
experience that the only thing worse than taking an exam is marking one.
If you need any peer review on the java, let me know. I'd be happy to sign any
Non Disclosure Agreement you'd think reasonable.
Once more, Good Luck.
Regards, AEB

And from all of us luddites, I say good for you. Just that the job situation
comes next to take away the free time <G>.

Interest? I would come and kiss your feet if the program comes out quicker
<G>. Anything that saves me the effort of having to use adobe to make my own
record sheets is more than ok with me.

Adding alein tech and custom tech sounds like a very good idea to me. Although
having the ability to have ships that are large (some of mine are upto 850
mass) would also be nice.

So many things to do, so little time.

Good luck, best speed, and hope all your results are what you want.
BIF
Sounds great! The "plug-in" feature sounds like just the thing if I
wanted to create SSDs from Power Projection.

I missed the original post about the FTSC's possible return, but I wanted pipe

Count me as one of the parties interested in FTSC.

Excellent. Major kudos for going cross-platform. I'm a Linux zealot...
erm... user and rebooting into Windows just takes too long.

Know any perl? I could use some extra hands with my freeware ship designer,
the successor to the shiptools you can get from

A bit. Perhaps some of the source on FB4 could be re-used.
