For the FT players out there who need a fix, FT Java is the next best thing to
Face to Face gaming. It's fun, fast, and the code improves with each revision.
At this time, all the FB1 fleets, the KV, the Phalons, and a version of the IF
are ready to play, plus a variety of
other ship configurations. There are a couple dozen pre-cooked
scenarios in a variety of settings, and the ability to create your own.

The just completed FT Java Tourney run by Jon Davis was a great
success, and lots of fun. It was almost like a sport season - starting
in September with round-robins and moving to an elimination ladder in
December. I hope there will be another this year, with more players.

If the tourney sounds like your cup of tea (or if you just want a game
to play - 1 turn a week to several turns a day), then you should check
out the FT Java homepage.

Go to http://home.nycap.rr.com/davisje/ftjava/

Check out the docs, download and install - it's not too techie. Then go
to the signup page:

http://firedrake.org/cgi-bin/ftjava2.cgi

and/or sign up to the FT Java mailing list set yourself up, pick a
game, recruit an opponent(s), then go to it. Right now, though scenario
selection is automated, Jon Davis initializes each game himself, so games
won't start automatically. The FT Java server is an antiquated Pentium II or
III, but has worked admirably for a long time (though I'm sure Jon wouldn't
turn down that old doorstop 1st Gen P4 sitting in your basement).

I'm looking forward to seeing new and old players in the FT Java universe.
Maybe one of you will take my tourney crown.

In your dreams. ;-)

I'm assuming it requires you to load the Java runtime stuff (all 60 MB of it)?
If so, it will have to wait until I replace my poor old aging computer. I only
have 220 MB left on C: drive...

'Fraid so; it needs the Java Runtime Engine. But everything else is included.
