This is the first of two surveys I'd like to do. This is for people who have
an official fleet: that is, use official GZG figures for their fleets. There's
a follow-up question for everyone.

I currently have two official fleets: an FSE fleet and an NAC fleet. These are
pretty extensive. I'm almost done painting the FSE fleet, then it's on to the
NAC fleet. I'm thinking of getting a third "official" fleet. The question is:
which fleet?

So, here's the survey: what official fleets do you have? Now that the Fleet
Book 2 is out, what official fleets are you looking at purchasing?

I've got ESU, Kra'vak, and more recently, NAC. They are painted to various
degrees in that order (ESU is done, Kra'vak half done, and NAC has never had
paint nor primer touch it).

I have FSE-built ships in IF colors, I have IF ships, and I have
KV. I may eventually buy ESU and a few NAC ships for use as PAU, and I might
possibly buy SV; I'll definitely buy more of the ones I already have. I'm
philosophically opposed to the UN, I don't like Thrust 2 so NSL seems
unlikely, and I won't buy many NAC because the necks on those thing just
scream "shoot me here".

I managed to put together (small) fleets for: ESU FSE NAC NSL
SV (1/2 official, 1/2 ICE Silent Death)

I think that the NAC, ESU, and NSL play somewhat alike. All depend primarily
on beam weapons. NAC and ESU depend primarily on screens for protection. NAC
and NSL use P-Torps as heavy weapons.

I would suggest Sa'Vasku or Phalon for your next fleet, as they present the
most different style of play from your options. (See Survey #2).

G'day Allan,

The Fulton clan has accumulated

1) a mammoth NSL fleet 2) OU fleet 3) decent FSE fleet 4) herd of Sa'Vasku 5)
fleet of Phalons 6) beginnings of UN fleet (over the past year we've also had
the beginnings of an IF (those crescent ones) and Kra'Vak, but we gave them
away to some of the other guys here to drum up interest).

Cheers

Well, first of all, I bought and like FT *because* it's a
"use-your-own-minis" game.

However, this does not stop me from appreciating the official minis on the
same basis I appreciate anyone else's minis, i.e. looks and pricing.

Thus I have bought small task forces of some fleets and odds and ends of
others -- but the decision has been based purely on aesthetics and
economics. I couldn't care less about their "official" stats or the "nation"
they're supposed to represent.

TFs: NAC (painted sickly green with red noses) K'V (orangy, I tried for a
flame effect but it didn't work out)
NSL (under construction -- btw: has anyone else noticed that if you
hook together two of the escorts (504+505 I think) and turn them
sideways, you get something pretty close to the "horseshoe" ship from the
original Alien movie?) FSE (bit light on the escort side since I dislike the
smaller designs, however, I plan to paint them together with my Kallistra
Earth fleet, I think they fit well together)
Phalons (anything Manabe-ish, yea! I just wish someone did
         Manabe-battleships)

Bits & pieces: IF (please, more of these) OU (could just turn some NSL ships
sideways...) UN (looking forward to seeing more of the range) ESU (I like the
big ones, but not the really anything below BC)

Hmmm... looks like S'V is the only range I do *not* have something from. Not
my cup of tea, I guess. Been planning on using my Silent Death NightBrood (old
style) for bioships.

In addition I have tons of old SD painted and new SD on the assembly line, old
GW SpaceFleet (from discount bin), a couple of BattleFleet Gothic escorts
(discount...), plastic StarTrek, plastic Gundam (ships!), a couple
of scratch-builts/conversions, a couple of Kallistra fleet packs, a few
StarBlazers (nice, but overpriced even with the current 20% off) and
probably some random bits I don't remember where I got them ;-) Oh, and
those Irregular's "Heirs of Manacus" retro-ships, really nice "Flash
Gordon" -style.

My collection includes (in order of numbers) NSL (17), Kra'Vak (10), OU (7),
ESU (4), UN (4), and Sa'Vasku (2).

I'll continue to add to all of those and may get some IF and Phalons. I don't
like the look of the NAC or FSE and so probably won't be bothering with them.

I currently have contingents of NSL and NAC. I also have some Kra'Vak and a
*lot* of Sa'Vasku. The latter two had fallen into disuse until the arrival of
FB2. Haven't been able to organise a 'full' game usingty he ewn rules yet as
everyone isn't yet familiar with them (yes Jon I am telling them to all go buy
a copy:))

I have all four "official" fleets from FB1, NAC, NSL, ESU, and FSE; all with
some ships painted and many more to do. My next fleet will be Kra'vak, simply
because I like the look of the ships and I'm intrigued by the background.

The Reynolds Consortium has a smattering of overhauled/redesigned
second-hand ESU and NAC vessels (the NACs modified to eliminate the
brittle "neck", which makes them look a *lot* more like the ESU vessels; I
wonder if that's deliberate?). But the bulk of the (admittedly, small)
RC fleet consists of saucers, up to a mass-250 (or so, don't remember
off-hand) fleet carrier. And we expect to commission two new classes
soon: a pair of BDN (B5Wars BW-274 "Vree Xorr War Saucer") and an SDN
(B5Wars BW-273 "Xree Xill Battle Saucer"). (The minis are a bit
pricey, but the available non-Star Trek saucers are limited; the
fleet is mostly scratch-built from buttons and such.)
Also under development: a new heavily-armored SDN class (old
Traveller "triangular brick" research vessel minis, slightly modified).

Fleet colors: Metallic copper-brown, gold highlights.

I like the looks of most of the ESU and NSL ships, and intend to eventually
accumulate a full fleet of each. And I'll probably assemble a fleet of the
Sa'vasku ships when the full range is available.

Unfortunately, I haven't had enough opportunities to play to
decide what weapons mix, speed, and/or tactics I prefer.
(Translation: I haven't played enough to not lose. ;-) )

I've got a small NSL fleet. I'm considering buying a ESU fleet, I like the
looks, and a Kra'Vak fleet. I'm definitaly going to buy a UN fleet, got to
have the big Deepspace Explorer. Most of my consideration on what fleet to buy
is looks.

good since I find the GZG ships tend to
be much too large for my taste/storage. Some might wonder at romulan

that to the untrained eye would appear to be cargo ships with oddly painted
exhaust ports but are in fact vicious missle frigats! But their confusion just

Two official fleets. Phalon and Kra'Vak, about 3000-3500 points each.
Some NSL and IF ships, though the capitals have been rather heavily
converted; and quite a few UNSC ships - or at least quite a few ships
constructed of UNSC ship bits, which isn't the same thing at all :-/

But the GZG models are very much a minority in my fleets. Most of my ships are
Silent Death (many of them rather heavily converted); after them come the
Starfleet Wars ships (Entomalians and Terrans; but I only use them for demos),
various GW models (Space Fleet, BFG, E40K etc), and scattered purchases from
various other companies.

However, if I had waited a little longer to start fleet building, I'da gone
with the UN ships instead of FSE.

I have a small NAC fleet, a small NSL fleet (mostly GZG figs, but a few
scratch builds as well), a small FSE Fleet (once again, this one includes
some scratch-builds), a small ESU fleet (no scratchbuilds this time),
and a Kra'vak fleet (only three GZG figs, the rest are scratchbuilds). All
other
fleets I have (FSU, IC, OU) are entirely scratchbuilds or non-GZG minis.

A small fleet is one jsut over 1000 points.

And I'm not looking at purchasing any more fleets--just doing a little
filling out of the fleets I have.

I have just started to play FT and thus don't have much in the way of fleets
and my lack of funds has hampered some purchasing.

Thus, I scratchbuild everything.

I have a small fleet (4-8) ships of asteriodal ships. I am currently
working on a Phalon fleet, but I use a central core of a rectangular prism
and then add cubes the rear third to make it look grown-ish stuff.

I will get some pictures up upon the web someday, along with that NSL fleet I
have been thinking of buying.

Further note of interest: But do a lot of people like the NSL fleet?

I've got an ESU fleet numbering around 25 ships or so... And I want to buy a
full Phalon fleet this summer (and I play regularily with the guy that started
the "interesting" Phalon thread:) And I've got some assorted other ships that
my girlfriend wanted to paint but not play with, some FSE and NSL biggies

> So, here's the second survey: what official fleets do you think are the

Since I'm a dedicated ESU player I can't say anything else can't I? But I
think the NSL are really good ships, at least IMHO they are the ships that
performs best with the worst player, i.e. their weaknesses aren't that big and
can rather easily be countered. Also facing a big NSL fleet I feel the only
way to beat them is to field a ESU Superdreadnought or Attack Carrier... But
I've learned that german ships die as well as the ESU ones:)

Aestheticly I of course enjoy my green ESU fleet with red markings. But except
for that I think all the ships except the NAC ones look nice... I especially
dislike the looks of the NAC capitals. From FB2 I've actually only seen the
Kravak firsthand so I can't say too much about them, though the Kravak I've
seen looks nice...
