I have a Japanese fleet that I ordered because I liked the way the ships look.
I'm not particularly interested in the GZG universe, and I'm not at all
interested in having a Japanese fleet.
Does anyone pick the models that they like, and the fleet design doctrine that
they like, and mix and match fleets?
I'm attracted to the NAC designs, and played a battle the other day using some
designs from that fleet with my Japanese models. I think I'm likely to play
the Japanese ships as a human fleet of no specific nationality, using NAC
designs.
Do other folks play with GZG ships, without thinking of them as the specific
fleet from the GZG universe?
Do other folks play with GZG ships, using the designs from another GZG fleet?
One of the things that I like about some of the other models is a lack of
obvious guns, allowing proxying more easily. The Japanese ships have visible
guns, and that might make them harder to use other designs for, but I don't
think it'll be a problem. As I've mentioned before, I'm not crazy about the
Japanese fighters, and hope to order some NSL and NI fighters sometime to see
what they look like.
thanks,

It's your lead. If the model was designed to be an Islamic Fed battleship but
you want to call it a Kentauran destroyer, go right ahead. Just make sure that
your opponent knows what's happening.
Yeah, I'm not asking for permission.:) Just wanted to see whether other people
have enjoyed the GZG models but used them differently.

Well as I have just seen how cool the big Japanese ships are I certainly
will want to buy some of those at some point. They will be painted up like my
new ESU fleet and will function as proper ESU ships (they could be bought or
"borrowed").
Even though I stay within the GZG verse it doesn't bother me at all. I would
have no problem buying all sorts of figures from varius fleets or
manufacturers and mix them. But I would probably make sure they had a
coherrent look both in form and colour..

I usually use GZG SSDs and try to stick to the right fleet if I have minis
from that fleet, but it's common for me to say "this looks like a destroyer
but it's really a heavy cruiser. These CLs are really battleships."

Well, I use various minies for FT< like B5 for example make awesome NSL
ships. But I am also using Narn, Minbari, Vorlon and Shadow ships as aliena
races I am creating in FT
