Just had a most enjoyable competition at CANCON (here in Australia).

Rules changes:
C class batteries have no anti-fighter ability.
ADAFs can fire at any fighter, 2 rolls at 6", 1 roll at 12". PDAFs can fire at
any fighter, 1 roll at 6". Order of movement:
Fighters move 1/2
Ships Move
Fighters move 1/2

Mines greatly increased in effectiveness.

Order of firing : Side A ship fires, and fires PDAFs/ADAFs, then any
fighter targetting it fires. Side B ship fires, then fires PDAFS etc

Some additional ships - small System Defence ships, Bases, Anti-Fighter
escorts, apart from that standard FT and MT Human ships (not missile).

Scenario 1: 1850 pt fleets each, start from table edge. No more than 925 in
Capital ships apart from carriers.
Scenario 2/3: 800 pts + 2 Light Cruisers and 2 LR Fighter Groups each,
but the largest ship available was a destroyer, and no more than 200 pts in
couriers etc

Scenario 4/5 : 1150 defence + Mines vs the 1850 pt fleet + Minesweepers.
Time limited, attacker had to win in 8 turns, and if over 12, lost big time.
Scenario 6: 1850 pts, both sides jump in. Scenrio 7: As 1.

My fleet was 2 CVs + 1 CVE, 6 Torp Fighters, 6 Heavy Fighters, 2
Interceptors.
Both times I came against a non-all-carrier fleet with it, I won in a
big way. I lost massively as the attacker in the attack/defence due to

I like this.
I was going to suggest a HDAF (Heavy Defence Anti-Fighter System):
HDAF Tons: 2 Range: 6 Points: 9
May attack any fighter or missile within 6". Hits Fighters on 4+,
Missiles on 5+. Kills 1d6-1(minimum 1) Fighters or destroyes a Missile.
Heavy fighters subtract 1 from this roll.

PSB justification: Fighter weapons are about 1/6 mass. (6 Fighters with
bay is 6 tons, 1/2 fighters & 1/2 bay gives 1/2 mass fighters. Fighter
is 1/3 engine, 1/3 weapon & 1/3 structure. This gives a 1/6 mass
weapon). HDAF mounts 6 Fighter weapons and a Fire Control System for the HDAF.

The only drawback with the *DAF changes, DON'T use fighter morale. I used it
in the first game & got thoroughly wiped out as my fighters
couldn't attack. My own fleet was 2 Fleet CVs + 1 CVE, 2 Interceptors,
4 Attack, 4 LR & 4 Heavys. Personally, I found the ranges too long (10 PDAFs &
6 ADAFs at 3 squadrons before they get to respond was just too much.) Although
it did make ADAFs more attractive to take.

Also, in fighter vs fighter games, the importance of LR fighters became
apparent, being able to "free shoot" at retreating fighters who had run out of
combat endurance (pity about those retreating fighter groups, Alan;)) I
enjoyed it myself, but found a distinct lack of a dreadnought.

Agree completely. Also, considering McCluskey et alia, if the spacegoing
fighetr pilots are anything like the Torpedo bomber pilots of WW2, or for that
matter, the Fuerzas Aereas Argentinas in the Falklands campaign, then the
Morale rules don't begin to reflect their propensity for attacking at hopeless
odds.

That was just good play on his part. I had to take on 3 Defence Ships (2 ADAFs
and a PDAF each) and 2 Fleet Defence Ships ( 3 ADAFs and a PDAF)
before hitting a 4-PDAF SuperDreadnaught.

I lost 14 Torpedo Fighters out of 36.

He lost the Superdread.
