Depends.
In most of my ship-to-ship systems, I just scale up the construction
tables so
that I can build fighters/shuttles/missles myself. That way the "tech
levels" are felt all across the spectrum of units without me guessing. The few
fighters I have built were about 2 times thrust of the average ships.
I usually say something like 1 hull space (for ships) is 20 (or more) hull
spaces (for small craft/ordinance). Once construction is done, just
divid by the small craft spaces to get the hull spaces. Round fractions
however you
want. I usually assumed that these smallcraft/ordinance only took one
hit.
I also added to the construction tables: Things like cockpits, Warheads, ect.

Wowzers. You must have lived right out there.
In my case the nearest city is an 1/2 hour drive away. And it isn't a
game
convention city -- as far as I know. (I wouldn't be surprized if I have
missed any cons...I work weekends...)
G'day Donald,

Sounds interesting.

Interesting, I would've guessed 4 - 5 times at least. Do you play vector
or cinematic (sorry if I've asked that before)?

By Aussie (and I don't doubt Canadian and maybe US) standards that's a walk in
the park. There's a reason our outback vets, doctors, politicians and
priests have their own planes;)

Cinematic. When you build the fighters yourself, you tend to base them on your
own ideas/experience....I "used" to play Starfire a lot. (Before I gave
it up, I had used fighters, and came up with my own variants. I tired of
patching all of the problems...)
In Starfire (Version 1...), Fighters had a speed of 9-12, and the best
ship speed was 6. Oh yes, Carriers were a special case and could do 7. Fighter
speed was dependant on how much exteranal weapons the fighter carried. It has
been a long time since I played...I may have some of the numbers wrong.
Anyway, Starfire(version 1) fighters seemed to work well for me. So I tend to
develop my own fighters along those lines.

So...How many "miles" to the nearest neighbor? ;-)

*chuckle* I travel for over an hour to get to work, and the same back. And to
get to wednesday's swordfighting training, the train trip is 2.5 hours. And
the same back. And I call none of that 'vacation';)
So where do I live? The Netherlands, a tiny, vastly overpopulated country. Go
figure;)

ACK! When was this? I used to go there to get my wargames figures! I lived
only a few streets away.
Cheers,
G'day,

Very true;)

Well the main place we lived it would've been 5km+ (sorry was born post
miles). But I've been to stations where it was a hell of a lot more, couldn't
tell you how big exactly, but it takes a good part of the day to get from the
edge of the property to the homestead by car (these are the
kind of stations that are larger than some European nations).

Yes, communications in the Netherlands are rather good. I used to drive from
Hengelo in the far east to Den Haag in the far west on weekends just to get to
the Boutique de la Grande Armee, a good wargaming shop with a games room *AND
BAR* in the back. Jonge Jenever and WRG Ancients... Heck, it was less than 300
km one-way, we do that on weekends when going shopping in Sydney.
