I have found some quite good treatments and expansions of the Earthforce
Sourcebook online. Some give us updates to FT1 FT rules, and others give us
ships that the original book didn't.
Since Mr. Tuffley co-wrote this book, does he
endorse any of the ship point values that have been published on the net (and
were conspicuously missing from the EA sourcebook) for the purposes of
balancing B5 battles? Does he have his own point values? How many Omegas would
it take to balance against a Sharlin or two for instance?
Lastly, I'd like to know what his (or anyones) experiences have been balancing
B5 ships against regular full thrust ships. What point values did you use and
what was the result?
Thanks in advance.
(I have hopes of someday getting my group to play something like the Severed
Dreams scenario or maybe some other battles in the B5 universe)

I can't endorse them, since I've never had the chance to look at them! My work
on the EFSB consisted of writing the rules system and delivering it
to CE as a one-off commissioned work. Some of the guys at CE then did
the
ship designs and added more stuff (like the player-character interaction
bits). The ship designs were done to reflect their capabilities in the show,
rather than to conform to a set design system. Sorry, but I can't help you
much on this one!

As soon as I got my copy way back when, I did convert to generate points and
construction under FT2. I found them all internally consistant except for the
Centauri Battlecruiser. The Heavy beams may still be undercosted, but appear
reasonable.

This was the first conversion put into webland, but the current versions have
diverged significantly since FB2 over the years.

Interesting. What does "Use the 50% for FTL & 75%
for non-FTL ships for new ships (EFSB ships are all
50%)" mean? Use 50% of what. Maybe I'm just being dense.
Don't regular FT ships pay 5% * Main Drive thrust?
Why are you having them pay 100-200% of their mass?
How is that possible? What am I not understanding?
I assume for pulse batteries, you mean to treat them as type 4,3,2, and 1
beams not AA, A, B, & C.
Why are interceptors cheaper than anti-fighter
batteries when they can be used as anti-fighter
batteries OR as pulse interceptors?
Why use a different system for fighters? It seems cheaper than FT's system,
even if you had to include a different hanger bay for every squadron.
Shouldn't Mimbari beams (which have extra capabilities and a faster recharge)
have a different point cost?
Have you run some combats to see if your points are basically on track?

You have to remember that this was all done under FT2, so was constructed
under the old rules. It's all been superseded by the B5 Shipbuilders guild FB2
conversions, so follow the webring around for the current listings.
