Subject: [FT] AoG Minis

I wrote Bruce Graw (Agent One) at AoG today when I found out that my wish list
of closeout minis still ran about $140 after the current
30-40% discount. He told me he'd be able to swing free shipping on an
order that size, but could go as far as 50% off retail if the order were

(significantly) larger. I don't know how large that has to be, nor whether a
group order from another of people would lose the extra discount by having to
be shipped (again) from the "contact" orderer. If
a "regional" group (MD/DC/VA USA) would be interested in a combined
order, I'd be interested in perhaps being the point of contact if it would
indeed save everyone some money.

I also inquired about saving some unsold minis from disintigration at the last
moment for possible donation to ECC, but apparently WB is watching AoG
inventory and they'd have to pay royalties on donations as well. Pretty harsh.

Can anyone fill me in on which scale (B5Wars / Fleet Action) more
closely matches the GZG FT ship scale? I'm not all that familiar with AoG
minis. And damn the original poster for pointing out the AoG sale (Ouch! My
wallet!!).

BTW -- Are the 30-40% sale prices already incorporated into the prices
on the web site?

I went looking at Fleet Action stuff. I sold my B5W figures, with the
intention that I would get into FA when I had the money. Of course, that's no
longer possible. Now I have to decide whether to buy stuff now, when I can't
really afford it, or just sell off my third party B5 White Stars and get out
of B5 altogether. This hasn't been the greatest of timing...

Out of curiousity, are the Gropos figures on sale? I couldn't tell if they
were (if they are, they were pretty expensive to begin with, I guess). I was
also looking at _them_ for 10mm SG2 vehicles... *sigh*

I find it odd that 50% is such a stretch for them. They were at ColdWars and
Historicon selling Bab 5 at 50% off (not FA mind you). One blister or 100.
Problem I had was I felt they were grossly overpriced anyway, the 50% just got
them to just below reasonable. 50% of AOG prices seems
like 10% off everyone else prices. IMHO - YMMV.

Both and neither ;-)

B5Wars full scale minis are not scaled to each other. AOG made the smaller
ships larger for collectors and to make them easier to sculpt (The White Star
is almost half the size of the Omega Destroyer, while in the show it is much
smaller) The largest B5Wars minis are huge and larger than any FT mini. There
are no 'small' minis in this line and sometimes the mini of an 'escort' ship
is larger than the 'cruiser' in the same fleet. Off hand I can think of only a
few B5W minis that just might be small enough to be an FT destroyer.

Fleet Action minis were supposed to be scaled to each other better than the
B5Wars line, but as always there are exceptions. The largest ships in FA scale
would probably be cruisers in FT scale. The smallest are comparable to FT
scouts.

So if you want a fleet that looks integrated and comparable to a FT fleet, you
have to get some of each (which is what many B5 Wars players did, using the FA
minis for the small ships and the B5W minis for the large ones).

Good luck.

Yes, from what I saw looking around (FA blisters are normally $9.95 I think
for comparison) Check out their Specials page for larger discounts if you buy
a fleet at a time.

I was waiting for other, better minds to reply, but, you know about fools and
rushing...

Of course, Dean's right about the lack of standardization, though not as bad
across all lines as he suggests. However, my gut feeling was that the B5W
stuff was actually more 'in scale', but the FA stuff looked better along side
FT. Sorry if that muddles things even more.

Looks that way to me, but the other comment about prices was bang on, though I
suspect the cost of this particular licensing would explain a lot. The B5W was
half price at GenCon, but that was hardly surprising, as I've
found small batches in several cut-out bins for as much as 75% off.

FA REALLY cut the interest in the other scale, from what I've seen.

I'm not as aware of the prices here, but there's a matching package offer that
seems to be about the same. I'm assuming the listed blister prices are about
as good.

Well, there's always the third option of borrowing some from me, painting them
to use, and giving them back if you ever decide to give them up.

Heh. Well, thanks for the input everyone as to which scale (FA or B5W) is
"more appropriate" for use with GZG Full Thrust minis.

I'm going to go for some FA scale minis. One reason is that from what
I've heard/read and what little I've seen, they would mesh more easily
with GZG scale FT minis. And if the FA scale minis are more internally
self-consistent size-wise than B5W, so much the better.

Although it was *fun* playing Aaron Newman's B5 scenario ("News from
Home") at GZG ECC V with big-ass B5W scale ships (lift with the knees,
not your back!), they seem really waaaay too big for regular play with 1" m.u.
"Change the m.u. size!" I hear you say? My kitchen table is only so big...

Plus I get beaucoup more ships for the $$$.:)

While the majority of the fun-ness was the scenario I'd have to
agree that moving those giant mini's was pretty darn fun. You really had to do
your stretching before hefting those bitches around the table.;)

That and they were painted...which is something I hardly do.

Greetings, B5 fans,

I caught the following msg from JMS re: the B5 license. I don't know what this
may ultimately me for the gaming universe and B5 as far as miniatures are
concerned, but I would hazard a guess that the 25mm followers on the list may
get to have some minis of characters from the show (assuming the new company
does them). We'll have to stand by, though, for more information "at a later
date."

Anyway, just FYI.

However, another RPG company has just come on board with ideas on how to come
up with some very cool stuff. More on this at a later point.

*L* That sounds like a plan. How do you define "decide to give them up"?
