...a pretty obvious one here -

How about doing some nation/species specific space installations, i.e.
distinctive space stations for the NAC, FSE, etc. along with orbital defence
platforms etc.

How many of you on the list would be interested?

I'll second that one~ I've got some specs for yards, docks, and orbital
defense bases. I dun think any of them would be particularily suited to any of
the governments, though some are just generically nasty toys:p

I've not had a LOT of luck using the ships' parts to make up
fleet-specific
stations, but it was always a good idea to me, and I gave it a try. On the
other hand, I'm not sure what I've still promised to purchase should it see
production, so I'll just say 'If he makes them, we will come'...

I'd sooner see DS shrinkwrap units than another set of stations.

Even better I'd rather see that creative work go into getting the Skirmish
stuff done. Though I think I'm in the minority here.:)

VERY interested! Heck, I'd even like to see some generic smaller things like
defence platforms, research stations, etc. if the nation specific stuff was
too hard.

Allow me to register my support here - a generic research station, with
big antennae and a docking pylon or two, would be like the 25mm
terrorist/hostages figures - Instant Scenario, Just Add Ships.

So what are you waiting for? Start sculpting them and send them to Jon for
casting...

I've got a few dock and base designs kicking around~ some homeworld 2 inspired
designs. When I get em rebuilt in styrene I'll see what I can do:P They're
rather simplistic, and they'll be needing detailing work, But I might have
something nice up in a few weeks.

I'd be very interested in seeing these!

Well Charles, I can show you the prototypes I have kicking around, but as
they're made out of balsa wood and BFG ship bits, they could stand for
rebuilding. I also need to get all the pylons at proper right angles for
starters <VBG>.

The only one of the 4 that's already been prototyped is a modular fleet dock,
which consists of a central pylon with 4 docking bays to the sides that ships
can slide into, either nose or stern first. It also has a end dock where a
ship can moor sideways on, and it's big enough to even hold a BFG cruiser
comfortably. It's got some antennae on it, but It's otherwise bland and it
could go for some more surface detail via raised panels.

The other three include a fighter base, similar to Chimera base from HW2, but
simplifed. I have some sketches of it only however. Then there's the shipyard
module which is basically going to be something like an open girder network
with a slot to accomadate ships slipping in sideways. I dunno how big it will
be exactly, but I've got a few GZG ships I can test it with, and ideally it
should be able to accomidate a BFG Imperial cruiser. The last is a simple
connencter module that would let you string all of these ones together. (the
shipyard and spacedock ones being made in such a way that they can simply be
placed next to each other to expand them.

The last one I have, that'll probably remain a me-only thing till I get
all the details worked out, is an O'Neal colony. I got challenged one day to
make something outta a pringles tube, and that's what I have <G>. It's
probably gonna have the tube replaced with something other than a pringles
tube, seeing as how fragile that is. Gonna try to grab some ABS piping. It's
about 10-11" long, and about 6-7" tall. It's only got three big
reflectors, but it looks cool just in primer.
