In 2171, in the quiet years of the Third Solar War, FSE shipyards were hard
pressed to keep up with both replacement needs for the war and the new need
for materials for the New French Republic rebellion. L'Astromarine's needs for
large replacement hulls dominated the capacity of the FSE's main shipyards.
The admiralty put forth the idea of a small inexpensive craft that could be
produced locally at frontier yards to bolster system defense forces, and thus
the Requin was born. Since they would never be separated from their supply
base, resupply of their
Sub-munitions packs would not be an issue. As the war heated up again in
2177, demands for mobile strike platforms rose a level where the admiralty
once again began to look for inexpensive solutions. The Requin, now a proven
design, was in plentiful supply at several outworld colonies and a
quick solution for strike-boat operations. Though used infrequently,
they would end up making a difference against the Kra'Vak in the Xeno War.

The design also proved popular with the Islamic Federation Navy, and several
variations have been developed. The crews' favorite version uses MT missiles
to replace the submunition packs (and
either the FC or armor--since MT missiles have their own FC, I'd
assume it's legal for the strikeboat itself to dispense with
FC?).

I like it!
Tony also mentioned that some may have found their way into the NIS
inventory...

They're still defenseless. That's why I said the "2 MT missile"
variant is the most popular with IF crews--launch from 54mu away
and you still have a reasonable prospect of surviving. Otherwise your best
tactic is to attack in a swarm, hope some other guy happens to be the one to
get the return fire, and then run.
Of course, if you wanted to truly irritate the enemy fighter jocks, you could
build a strikeboat with no FC, no offensive
weapons, just 4 PDS. You'd kill 3.2 fighters on average, and
the return fire would probably kill you; even if you're using morale rules and
the rest of the squadron goes home, you've lost on that exchange, but maybe
you could get your opponent
worrying. And if you're lucky--sorry, Beth, I mean "if your
luck is good"--you might polish off one of his squadrons and
survive.

I heard that! Its got to be something in the water right?
