Someone has probably already done this, but I thought that I would post it
anyway.
Here are the average rolls (taking the higher of the die rolls) for the FMA
dice combinations:
By Dice Types: Dice Average Roll
d4/d4 3.1250
d6/d4 3.9166
d6/d6 4.4722
d8/d4 4.8125
d8/d6 5.2292
d8/d8 5.8125
d10/d4 5.7500
d10/d6 6.0830
d10/d8 6.5500
d10/d10 7.1500
d12/d4 6.7083
d12/d6 6.9861
d12/d8 7.3750
d12/d10 7.8750
d12/d12 8.6861
By Average: Dice Average Roll
d4/d4 3.1250
d6/d4 3.9166
d6/d6 4.4722
d8/d4 4.8125
d8/d6 5.2292
d10/d4 5.7500
d8/d8 5.8125
d10/d6 6.0830
d10/d8 6.5500
d12/d4 6.7083
d12/d6 6.9861
d10/d10 7.1500
d12/d8 7.3750
d12/d10 7.8750
d12/d12 8.6861
Now this does not tell the whole story in a FMA opposed roll.
While a d10 only has an average roll of 5.5 and a d8/d8
combination has an average roll of 5.8125, there are 2 results
on a d10 that will beat any combination of d8/d8. Still, the
results are interesting.

Assuming I wrote the spreadsheet expressions correctly:
Defender
4 6 8 10 12
4 37.50% 25.00% 18.75% 15.00% 12.50%
6 58.33% 41.67% 31.25% 25.00% 20.83%
8 68.75% 56.25% 43.75% 35.00% 29.17%
10 75.00% 65.00% 55.00% 45.00% 37.50%
12 79.17% 70.83% 62.50% 54.17% 45.83%
The probability of the attacker's die (down the column) beating the
defender's die (across the row)--
so if A is a 6 and D is a 10, we see that A has a 25% chance of beating
D.
If A has a Quality and Firepower roll, each d6, and needs to beat D's d10,
then the odds are:.25 *.25 = 6.25% both beat.75 *.75 = 56.25% neither beat
1 - (sum of results above) = 37.5% one beats
The sreadsheet is now up, linked at

format, let me know if you need something else. Right now it's
G'day,

Actually the links down... or at least it is for me (I'm using Netscape
4.77)
Cheers

They're both up as far as I can tell, using IE5.5:
http://home.quixnet.net/~deboe/links/fmaodds.xls for the spreadsheet
http://home.quixnet.net/~deboe/links/fmaodds.htm for the page where I
would have put a coherent explanation, if I'd been coherent.
Of course, I also checked them before I send the message last night, so it
