In rereading the FMA material, there seems to be two distinct systems for
close combat weapons.
In the first, close combat is a single-opposed die roll with the
attacker and defender each rolling their quality die and possibly doubling or
quadrupling it.
In the second (implied from costing), close combat weapons have an attack die
value and an impact die value.
I'm interested in the more detailed second system, but there's a lot of detail
missing. Does anyone have this?
> In rereading the FMA material, there seems to be two distinct systems
This is probably a carry-over from the draft being pasted together from
several part-systems written at differing times, and used for different
test versions! I'm not sure yet which version to use in the final rules.

Probably not, because I don't think I've written it yet!! ;-)
(Don't get me dragged off onto FMA right now, not while I'm getting FB2
done....!)

Usually I hold with literal translation of the scripture, but in this case I
think a paraphrase is better:
"Thou Shalt Not interrupt St^3 Jon as he worketh upon the Fleet Book, for
shouldst thou do so, verily, thy brethern of the list shall turn upon thee and
rend thee, and Narn Bat Squads shall be sent upon thee in battalions and
regiments, and thou shalt be shredded, minced, yea and emulsified. And, after
the Fleet Book is published, thou shalt be free to hound him ceaselessly about
FMA, or the Scenario Book if that be thy desire, for all thou shalt interrupt
in that case is St^3 Jon's life, to the extent that he has one anyway,
forsooth."
Right, Jon?

I'm developing a system based on the FMA system, but using a quality dice to
hit, and a weapon damage dice to penetrate armour. This is different from
the St. ^3 Jon's FMC/FMA skirmish system, as it doesn't use the impact
and
firepower values derived from SGII. It works for both Fantasy/Medieval
and
SF/Modern settings and seems to play well.
If you're interested in knowing more about it, let me know.

Jon, why not keep both, along the lines of a "quick and dirty" system and a
"more detailed" system as we have done elsewhere for firing?

I agree. Give me options. Small scale I could use detail, large scale quick
and dirty, etc. I like this flexibility.

This does sound interesting (especially in a gaming group with lots of
fantasy-based miniatures- it's easier to convince people of a game
system's use when their current miniatures can play...). What stage of
development is this in?
Thanks,

Sorry, my mistake. Forgot to check the reply-to line...(I just keep
doing that).
Once again, my apologies.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled list....

It's still in a intense cycle of make rules, play test, break 'em. Getting
magic to be just right, with summoned monsters and lightning bolts, is just
about right now.
Currently I'm rewriting the entire rules set from my half-inch thick
pile of notes and changes. Once I'm done, I'll let people on this list know.
In the mean time, you can see the prototypes of this system on my site. Look
for
Powered Armour Trooper in my DSII section on my site for the SF/Modern
skirmish. Look for Simply Melee in my FUDGE section on my site for the
Fantasy/Medieval skirmish. Be aware that both of these are several
revisions of rules behind my current notes. So, don't be put off.
