Seriously though, how/why are they being shipped by ship to Seattle?

Because that's where the ship's going? If the goods are in a container that
container probably goes (first) to wherever the most cargo on the ship wants
to go to. GZG don't have any controls on international shipping schedules. And
if the next ship to say New York doesn't leave until a week later, whose to
choose?
If you accept that air freighting them would make the price unacceptable, this
is the only way. The ship they are on is (hopefully) the first available ship
heading to North America with space, Can't ask much more than that.
I Of course, if you were a /real/ obsessive you'd already have arranged
a redeye economy class flight to come over and get one by hand:).

Relax Jon, I was joking. (8-) I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a
misprint. (I just had this image of my head of a ship pulling out of
Portsmouth, and heading South, around Africa, stopping at Diego Garcia, moving
up and over to Japan, and then crossing the Pacific to Seattle.
Two years and six weeks later... (8-) )

I've already got one, actually; JT was gracious enough to send me one
because of the FT3 playtest. I love it. (8-)

Simply, GeoHex are in Oregon - so Seattle makes a lot of sense. The
alternative is to land it on the East coast and have to overland freight it
all the rest of the way, which I assume is inconvenient and expensive (and
could well take almost as long). The bottom line is that GeoHex arrange the
shipping, and if they want them in Seattle than that's where they
go.... :)
