Subject: First there was the mini, now a design (Sol Class)

I was hacking around with Armaggedon outfitter, looking at the model, looking
at the design, going back to the model, going back to the design...etc.

I came up with what follows.... it captures (for me) the mini and the spirit
of a huge, well defended (shields over armour, lots of PDS, redundancy in FC
and ADFC), heavily gunned (look at those barrels! and all the add ons on the
sides of the fuselage just scream offense!) monster. And it probably fits with
large government (ie the UN) and
large military-industry pork barrelling (No, No Mr. General Secretary!
Don't listen to those fools! Clearly the new SDN needs room for an entire
marine contingent which can also be refitted as diplomats
quarters! And of course we need the Multi-Phase BFG Array....yes... I
know it costs $32 Gigabucks but it'll be the pride of Earth.... would I
lie to you...?) .

Without further adieu.

It's a little bit TOO much of a monster. It would actually be usable
if
you could drop the mass to about 250-260.

How about:
UNSC Sol Class SDN-X
Mass: 264 Points: 927 Hull: Weak FTL: Std Main Drive: 2 Armour: 14
Damage Track: 53; 14/13/13/13
Crew Factor: 14+8 marines

Firecontrols: 5 ADFC Nova Cannon
3 x Class-4 battery (F)
4 x MT missiles 2 x SMLs SML Magazine (10 mass; 2 ER, 2 std) 6 x Pulsetorp (F)
4 x Class-1 batteries
6 x PDS Cargo (Troops): 8 Mass 2 shuttle (3 mass bay)

That's a little over the top IMO.

Much better, however, I'd loose the...

And mix up the beam batteries a bit more to keep the flavor of the current FT
designs. Perhaps killing the 4s all together.

I agree the FB doesn't deem Wave/Novas as balanced systems
so its unlikely a FB derived class would have such systems.

The rationale for the big guns it to model the end of wing pods, but these
look similar size and calibre as the ESU heavy ships and IIRC these are only
class 3.
