Agents of Gaming has posted the first miniatures photos for Gropos, their
ground combat B5 game.

I like the Eldar, err Minbari infantry, but I really like the VTOLs.
I don't quite recall the scale, but it's either 10mm or 1/300. Their
stock list has the tanks at $20 for four ($15 per infantry platoon),
so probably 1/300.
And on the plus side, Rob Glass is having input from a Voice Of Reason with
military experience on the project, so I've really got my fingers crossed. So
long as he doesn't go with a game mechanic for its own sake. Again.

Actually they ARE going to be in the 10 mm range. This is "N" scale or so
isn't it? I believe they mentioned that they were hoping to allow players to
use the "wide range of terrain" in that scale- apparently the EA tanks
work
out to just over 1 inch or so (does that work out to that scale- I'm
afraid I'm not familiar with it). That and I believe they're really trying to
avoid letting people mix scales as they think it would cut down on sales. I'm
in the playtest for Gropos, so if I hear more on the minis I'll post it (if
others don't get to it first that is ;-)
I'll go back to my lurking hole now.
Later,
At those prices I would hope for 15mm. GHQ is @ $8.00 for 5. Old Glory WWII
infantry is 50 for @$12.50. I'll check the url.

from the online discussion board and Symon Cook, I understand that the minis
are actually about 10mm. however, I'm not sure how accurate the scaling is,
since this has waffled in the past. the pics seem to indicate something a bit
larger than 6mm to me, but without a reference point, it's
just a gut-feel....
bottom line is I'm *hoping* for more of a 6mm scale to mix with GZG figs.

Okay Alex, dish. How's Gropos look rules-wise ? Is Graves keeping
the reins on Rob? Do all the rules mechanics make sense or is Rob
off on one of his wild games-design tangents ?
I really have high hopes for Gropos, but Fleet Action was abit of a
disappointment.

First off sorry for taking so long to reply to this- was a convention
weekend for me.
Actually GROPOS seems like a combination of FA and Dirtside/SG to me so
far. I can definately see where I think Graves has made his mark. But of
course there are still lots of things to be ironed out in playtesting...for
example, right now the Centauri and Narn units have basically the same
composition as EA- 4 platoons to the company etc. You could change the
names and it would be US vs. Soviets in near future without any real problems.
But again this is all stuff that's in the works right now in playtest. The
rules themselves seem to be fairly well written (we're being very careful to
edit every copy of rules we see as well!) but at the moment, artillery and
VTOLs dominate the game completely (we're working on some changes). All in all
I think the game will turn out pretty good, and from what I understand the
Minis for the "big four" from the main rules will be available in the first
month or two that the game is released. We were hoping for 15mm but I guess
they wanted to keep costs down more since this will very much be a larger
scale game with lots of tanks/IFVs.
If you're looking for more info, the GROPOS forum at b5wars.agentsofgaming.com
has a good number of posts about what will be in the game and a few pretty
lively discussions.
Later,
Then this N scale selection is a mistake. Warhamster is in 10mm, and I haven't
seen a great deal of success with that. Furthermore, this scale also prevents
folks from using proxies until the true miniature appears, and
prevents use of some of the fine terrain other folks have done--there
aren't
a lot of N-scale futuristic buildings available, as far as I know.

Um... I suspect you're thinking of Games Workshop's "Warmaster". That is in
10mm.
War*hamster*, OTOH, is an RPG by John Kovalic and John Wick; IIRC it
doesn't use miniatures at all... See http://kovalic.com/warhamster.html
if you don't believe me <G>
So, well... earlier, "Warhamster" has worked as a catch-all name for
generic GW games. Now, it refers to the RPG equivalent of Critter-Tek
:-)
Later,
In my opinion, N scale is an excellent choice. The figures paint up quickly,
the buildings are easy to scratchbuild at that scale, there are
lots of things you can add from N-Scale terrain at trainshops that will
fit
and 28mm scale sci-fi ruins will look positively 'epic' in scale...
oops, best not use that word!
I have 2 complete armies of Warmaster in 10mm, they are painting up fine and
they were damn cheap.
I think 15mm would have been a fine choice as well, espeically if armor
involvement was limited, but with armor dominating the game I would have to
say that 10mm is perhaps a better choice.
