Hi all!

Not being a FT player, but a more scirmish gamer, liking the study ground
beneath my foes..;)

I played a fast fighter game based on Blue Max rules, with Star Wars Micro
Machines.

I was just wondering if there are any nice fighter rules... You know like
dogfight games. We enjoyed the Star Max (tm) games tremedously and we'd
appreciate a tip on some rules. I got hold of a copy of Star Strilke (?) a
couple of years back for a couple of bucks. I packed it when I moved and
haven't opened the box. Anyone got any experience from that game? I think it
was made by those who did Role Master RPG, Iron Crown?

Secondly, I wonder if there are eny kewl fighter models to use for dogfights?

I got hold of some traveller models which I liked. THe models should be about
an inch in length. Is that too big for fighter in FT?

More some other time...

Not really its a capital ship game, but you can pretend the capitals are
fighters and play a fighter game. I played a Silent Death game this way with
the vector rules and it worked very well indeed, better than SD

itself and best space fighter game feel to date.

Old regegade legion and silent death are some of the best sources. GZG do some
aerospace models but they aren't as good as the SD ones. MM Star wars is also
a good source as stated. AOG B5 wars do a range of large fighters. GZG do
fighters in the GF range which are small but good for large actions. GZG FT
fighters are teeny about
1/4 inch long.

> I got hold of some traveller models which I liked. THe models should be

Not if you use them as *ships*.

Out of print, but occasionally available in net auctions, is a boxed game
called
Star Warriors. Rules for Star Wars space combat with some tie-ins to the
Star Wars RPG. I've only played a few times, but thought they worked well
enough, and had nice flavor. Nothing you may not have done quite well on your
own, though. Blue Max seems very adaptable.

Similar fighter games include FASA's Top Gun, Battlestar Galactica, and The
Last Starfighter boxed board games. BG, instead of the canned maneuvers, uses
programmed sheets, but these are MUCH simpler than most. Circle triangle for
turn left or right...

Star Master, the RPG, tended towards complexity to the point it was known,
like RM, as Table Master for the constant looking up in long, complex tables.
Star Strike, for which a line of lead ships were produced, did have similar
complexity issues. The figs were rolled into a much simpler, and quite popular
system known as Silent Death. This is in a second incarnation. I've played,
but don't much enjoy the game myself. Have several of the figs that are
planned to be FT ships, though.

FT with it's cinematic movement seems, actually, to be a very good game for
playing movie-style dogfighting, especially if you stay with the FTII
fire arcs with blind rear. Just don't even mention big ships, or make one edge
of the board a star destroyer, rebel cruiser, etc. I suspect there are SSD's
somewhere on the web, but I can only find fighters as fighters, and stats for
the bigger ships.

If you come up with your own, please be sure to share them with us. ;->=

FWIW I have a number (40+) of Silent Death minis that I am willing to
part with. Email offline for listing. I also have LOTS (several hundred) of
Modern Micro armor (mostly US and USSR) that are painted and based.

There are rules for converting FT/MT into a fighter-only game on the
unofficial FT Website. They were apparently written by Keith Jordan. Haven't
tried them, myself. Anyway, you can find them here:

Star Strike is more capital oriented, though all the models they ever made
were for the smaller fighter and gunboat sized ships. They then constructed
Silent Death to handle fighters and AFIK cancelled Star Strike.

Space Master (the RPG), Star Strike (Spaceships), and Armored Assault (Ground
combat) were all very interesting, but unfortunately overly complex, as they
shared the complex underpinnings of the RPG system.

FWIW, Rolemaster is my favorite RPG, they extra detail it contains is workable
in a situation where you are controlling 1 individual. It totally breaks when
you want to control more than a small handful of items (like a fleet of ships)

Star Strike is a bit involved. Try its easier cousin "Silent Death".

One idea (if your looking for something that will do strike fighter combat) is
to use the fighter combat rules for Wing Commander:CCG, other the poor way
that it handles cap ships.
