G'day,

Anyone know what happened to the Republic of Mars (and People's Republic of
Mars) websites?

Or does anyone have any thoughts on mars in the gzg future history?

In my up coming holiday time I'm thinking of having some human vs kravak
battles set there and am interested in hearing anyone elses thoughts on the
planet.

Cheers

I've been thinking of Mars as a bit of a backwater, but (by the 2180s) a
well-populated backwater.

My thinking is this: with FTL coming so early in the GZGverse, why go to
Mars when you can head out-system to a more Earthlike planet? If you can
build a Mars-capable ship, you can stick an FTL drive to it and get
out-system instead...

So Mars is sort of forgotten; there's been enough immigration there to get a
healthy hetrogenous population going; most of the Powers own territory there,
as well a a lot of little groups who went there because it was cheap, close to
Earth, and had (relatively) uncontested real estate.

I was sort of seeing a few big swathes of territory - an NAC Dominion or
two, etc - and, esp. in the badlands areas, lots of little domed or
underground 'city-state' colonies, squabbling with each other. Plus,
Mars
being in Sol system, there's the various UN-enforced Core Worlds
treaties,
so the UNSC/UN Marines/etc get involved.

Oh, and just enough terraforming to screw up the weather, but not enough yet
to get breathable air.

So, we get lots of small groups wandering around the badlands, heavily armed,
under a permanent sandstorm that screws up airpower and most orbital recon.
Sounds like a great SG2 setup!

Didn't see it - slick Flash-based website, too. Sure, something like
that, but without Eddie Murphy!:>

I was actually thinking of several anime graphic novellas I've read, set on
Mars & other places, for the tone of my Martian musings, plus the
details of the GZGverse - ie early FTL aborting in-system colonization.

The half-arsed terraforming - "just enough to cause trouble" - was
inspired by Kim Stanley Robinson's "Red Mars" trilogy; at one point they
have a near-global sandstorm that lasts about five Terran years, so I
thought, "What if terraforming resources had been cut just after that point,
so that monster storms became a regular feature, not just a bug?" (In the
novel the resources are there, so the terraformed Mars stabilizes
again...)

***It's silly but has some interesting shots of smugglers dens on the moon and
travel sequences.

***Yeah I've seen some good ones like "Big Wars" set on a slightly terraformed
Mars.

***That would be an intriguing place to game. You can go in a myriad of
directions here. From law enforcement to Mars-ees rebelling backed by
various major or minor powers.
