Slightly of the GZG figure range topic, for those interested in SG
II/Kryomek stuff.

> I only wish that Galoob would market those Aliens APC's over here in Oz

I phoned Galoob a while back and it seems that they were willing to do mail
order, I have no idea what it would cost to Oz though. The Aliens APC is IMO a
better substitution for the SCARAB ATAC, a real APC not the mickey mouse
origional APC, (It was released a few years ago for the KM game but Grendel
had no licence for that so they stopped marketing it for KM,
however, I have a copy of the stats+points somewhere).

For KM PA I use the SWATs as interdict siuts since I don't feel they are big
enough for true PA, I use Grendel's foirst release of the Predator PA as my
heavy PA, these again were origionally released for KM before Fantasy Forge
pulled the rug out from under them. The Predator suits are much
bulkier with either heavy weapons or dual basics (i.e. chainguns/heavy
flamers or twin gauss rifles/twin SMGs etc) in addition to a shoulder
mounted grenade launcher. I'm told by the guys at Scotia that this is the
style of the new SWATs (but they said this a year ago and nothing has appeared
yet!).

As far as using GZG PA for KM I think that the NAC PA is probably the best bet
for interdict suits, the NAC suit has a helmet section so looks reasonably
anthropomorphic, however it does appear a little slim compared with the KM
figures. In addition I'm not wild about the PA personal sidearm which is
almost pistol sized, it just looks too small to be a gauss rifle (my fave
armament), though it could be a SMG or machine pistol. The NSL suit, although
cool looking, is built very differently to the NAC suit, there is no defined
helmet section, and to my eye looks a little short when stood next to the NAC
suit. The design of the NSL suit is very square in
profile whereas the NAC suit is more form-fitting. Again the NSL suit
looks very slim next to KM figures (even more so than the NAC suit from
behind). the NSL personal side arm looks more like a real weapon, it is a
complete redesign of the NSL sidearm for PA, which IMO this time works, it
could easily be a combat or gauss rifle/grenade launcher combo.

In conclusion, I would reccomend the NAC suits are interdict marines, probably
with a bit of work to replace personal weapons with those from KM marines. For
PA suits you might want to try the Grendel range (the interdict marines are
passable but need a bit of work, try to find earlier Predator marines with
both arms separate rather than the newer ones with one arm cast on). My fave
PA suits are the Grenadier Future Warriors suits, they are not too dissimilar
to the NSL suits but they are scaled to 28mm, they come with either heavy
chainguns, missile launchers (RRLs) or lasers, and they are BIG compared to a
LPW armoured marine. Of course this is all just my opinion of this stuff. I
hope some of this waffle is of use to you.

That would be difficult as the folks from Fantasy Forge set Grendel up after
FF went belly up.... Do you mean Kryomek (well we all know that they're Scotia
really) as they had (and still have) the rights to Kryomek? But I didn't think
there was ever any problem with Grendel putting Kryomek stats out with their
stuff, certainly my Scarab came in a box with stats for it on the back.

And did Scotia/Kryomek also buy up Grendel went they under? If so can
I still get Scarabs? 'Cos I would really like another two.

I never liked any of the various types of PA put out by FF or Grendel. Too
ungainly for my tastes. Does anyone have a list of the
stuff that Kryomek/Scotia put out? I wrote to them asking for one,
but just got the Scotia catalogue in response. (Yes, I did say
Kryomek in my letter.) :-(

FF split to become two companies, one of which was Grendel, the guys who made
Grendel only had a few of the lisences to the KM stuff (a couple of the

Oops I guess you are right there. The Scarabs origionally came out with KM
stats but later releases dropped the stats.

Yes Scotia/Kryomek have now bought Grendel. As far I'm aware in the UK
the
scarabs are avaiable from Scotia/Kryomek, possibly even under the
Grendel label.

I always had terrible service from Scotia/Kryomek, I enentually tried
Simtac in the US (since I'm here now). they quckly sent out an illustrated
catalogue listing all the Scotia/Kryomek stuff (and some more). If you
want I'll dig out the address and phone no. for you.

Ok, I know this is REALLY off topic, but since Scotia bought Grendel, does
that mean that they will be producing Leviathan(fantasy skrimish game) again?
Does anyone have any information on this? It was a great game, with some DAMN
good figures, and I was wondering if the rule set will be supported by Scotia.

AFAIK this is the situation:

Fantasy Forge folded a while after releasing Kryomek, and sold off the KM
system rights, books and all the metal ranges to Scotia (who set it up as a
separate company, Kryomek Holdings). Then the two Johns (Robertson and Grant)
who were FF started up again as Grendel, doing nothing but resins (strangely
including the chicken walkers, which I thought had been sold to Scotia with
the KM deal...). Grendel produced Leviathan and the associated miniatures, in
cooperation with Heartbreaker, and soon after this Grendel
went toes-up (anyone notice a pattern here??). Scotia stepped in again
and bought Grendel as a whole, including Leviathan. So now we have Scotia
doing all the FF and Grendel stuff, including KM and Leviathan; AFAIK Simtac
have been the US licensee for the whole lot all along, so for the US market
nothing much will have changed. John Robertson from FF/Grendel is now
working for Heartbreaker in the UK - it's certainly an incestuous little
industry over here...:)
