Andrew Martin, sent me a revise index page. He said it sould fix the
problems as well as correct the mail-to link. As I said before, I can't
see the problems from my home or work systems (IE 5.0 at work, Netscape at
home). So I see no change. Can someone let me know if it is now working. If it
is I can do a compare and apply the changes to the other pages.

Scott,

I just tried it with both Netscape and Internet Explorer, and see no change.
Netscape still goes to the Geocities "we can't find the page" message, while
IE doesn't.

Ok, I removed the meta code added by FrontPage. I then uploaded the pages.
Geocities added the following code to the bottom of each page. (I'm putting it
in quotes to try to prevent it from executing in peoples mail boxes.
""""<IMG SRC="http://geo.yahoo.com/serv?s=76000013&t=951502253" ALT=1
WIDTH=1 HEIGHT=1>
<!-- Yahoo! Menu service --></table></noscript></script><script
language="JavaScript"
src="http://a372.g.a.yimg.com/f/372/27/1d/www.geocities.com/js_source/yg
IELi
b5.js"></script><script language="JavaScript">var
yvContents='http://geocities.yahoo.com/toto?s=76000013&l=NE&b=1&t=951502
253'
;yfEA(0);</script><!-- END Yahoo! Menu Service -->""""""

I can't figure out how to prevent it from being added to my pages, short of
changing hosts.

In other words - if you want a web hosting site that doesn't mangle your
page with advertising inserts, you have to pay money for it. As far as I know,
*all* of the "free" web hosts do this sort of thing to user pages.

I pay $20 a month for my web site hosting service through Interland. In
return, I get 80 MG of storage, 2.5 GB/month transfer, unlimited free
email boxes, email redirection, usage statistics, Frontpage support, and the
ability to load & run any CGI program I want - along with a bunch of
other stuff. Interland is not an ISP, so these charges are in addition to my
DSL costs through US West. However, considering that I can create and destroy
entire webs at will, the extra cost is worth it to me.

Heinlein's aphorism: There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch...

Just in case you hit the other one, TANJ: There Ain't No Justice...

Don't you loooooove faked homespun wit? ;->=

By the way, as long as I've got Java/Javascript turned off on my
Netscape, I seem to access everything on your page fine. If anybody is having
trouble, can you send to me directly symptoms to see if I can stub my toe the
same way?

"There ain't no such thing as a free lunch" which is roughly equivelent to
"You get what you pay for."

   For a while I used Crosswinds, http://www.crosswinds.net, which
if free, unlimited disk space, and NO advertising. Of course nothing is
perfect, this site is on the slow side and I was never able to get ftp to work
in uploading my files.

Well there's a slight difference. Heinlein wrote his at a time where swearing
in a book was still considered a bad thing. "TANJ" and "TANJit" comes from
Niven's reluctance to swear at a period where swearing in books was
acceptable. *S*

Then you've got Drake, who mixes HIS fake aphorisms with expletives, so go
figure! *L*

I just tried the page in both IE5 and Netscape 4.5 and it worked fine in both
of them. I know that both browsers handle changed pages versus what's in the
cache differently. But I had problems the other way with my site. IE5 would
take a while to see the updated changes, Netscape saw them right away.

Not having been to the site before, I have no problems with either.

One suggestion, though. The title tag for the page says simply "index". That
should be changed...
