Subject: ECC VI After Action Report

GZG ECC VI is past us and I wanted to provide my own thoughts on this
convention.

The Games

The Gamemasters did an excellent job this year in event preparation in terms
of figures, terrain, and their scenarios. We had some events that weren't run
due to the lower than normal attendance, but those that

did were well received.

Some events were so popular that those who didn't play them want them to be
repeated.

Excellent job, GMs!

The On-site Vendors

Carl Scheu and Bill Spring had a vast selection of figures and gaming supplies
for us. They also donated a number of prizes for our events. Thank you!

The Off-site Vendors

Jon Tuffley, Tony Francis, and David Dunn were very generous this year. We had
a lot of newly released figures and prizes for the painting contest. We'll
soon have the Newman SDN available for purchase from Brigade. Thank you for
your support of the ECC convention!

The Painting Workshop

Rick Rutherford ran a painting workshop this year and demonstrated his
blending techniques. Bill Spring, Laurel Caldwell, Bill Chapman's children and
I experimented with Rick's figures and methods. It was very enlightening and
I'm interested in trying some more of his technique. Thank you, Rick!

The Shirts

Albert Cho, Adrian Johnson, and Nick Caldwell did a super job with the shirts
this year. Not too many people wore them in the convention room, due to the
cooler temperatures, but I'll enjoy wearing mine at other gaming events.
Thanks!

Thought I'd chime in on this. I won't likely be attending but I recall when
plannign for my wedding reception a large, high volume coffee dispensor wasn't
much to rent at all. WE went throug ha local rental company. After that it's
just a quick visit to the local warehouse store to buy some bulk coffee and
you should be set. Another option is to have just hot water on supply so
people can bring their own hot beverage of choice. This way tea drinkers,
cocoa fiends and decaffers are all taken care of. I myself, as a coffee
drinker, have found it handy to carry a small french press with me when I
travel.

What are the chances of having coffee in the room next year? Are we talking
about a significant cost or has it never been an issue? I'm sure everyone
wouldn't drink it so we might not need 100 gallons of the stuff but a few cups
here and there would be nice.:)

Good question and one that I'd be happy to answer. It has been raised before.

The issue becomes one of significant cost. We ran the numbers for coffee
service and we couldn't afford it. Assume they came in with coffee on Friday,
Saturday morning, Saturday evening, and Sunday morning. (Four visits) A coffee
service runs about $2 per person and given the size of our group, we'd pay
about $60 per service. With four services, we're up to $240 of coffee.

I think Eli hit it on the head... We (the ECC attendees who are interested)
should just chip in and purchase the goods each year. The coffee maker would
probably cost around $100. Supplies...well...that's on a yearly basis.

It would cost less than $240...that much is for sure.:)

I manage a hotel and one thing you have to watch for is that many hotels have
a policy about no outside food and beverages. And have additional charges to
back it up if you violate the policy.

I suspect that the approach would not be to get a coffee service but to
see how they'd feel about one of the in-room coffee makers being taken
down to the function space - and whether they'd be prepared to supply
some of the packets of coffee to go with it.

Or you could just go to the "Square One Coffee Shop" across the street behind
the hotel's parking garage. I've been going there for the past
couple of years -- it's a nice little place with good coffees & teas.
