Hi, guys.

This is the last day for my Star Frontiers starships auctions, as well as the
B5 White Stars auction. The auctions end tonight around 9:30 PM CDT. There are
two auctions for painted starships and three auctions for unpainted starships.

There was a problem with my B5 White Stars auction, for anyone who was
interested. Someone bid the price up to $71 then retracted it later. I don't
believe it was a shield bid, just someone making a mistake. However, for a
full day it was sitting at the higher bid price even though that price had
been retracted.

At any rate, if you were interested in the auction but the price scared you
off, it's currently at $27. I know a few people on the list were interested.

My auctions can be found at:

Well, the not-White Stars are still a bit out of my comfort zone, but
the
current bids on the painted Star Frontiers won't be there for long. ;->=

Just out of curiosity, as I think you're a bit closer now, any thoughts of
making it to Indianapolis at the end of the month?

Also, what ARE those paints on the Sathar? Lovely retro green on pink.

There is a nearby shop that still have a bunch of Star Frontiers miniatures
that are new in box... I think some Sathar amongst them.

Would you guys want me to double-check that possibly pick some up for
you?

No profit for me, you'd just have to cover ALL costs associated (minis,
packaging, postage).

Paint them and play them to death (sooner or later.)

And by the looks of things (I'm just checking e-mails now) you won them!

Actually, when I was in Toronto I was _closer_ to GenCon at Indianapolis
than I am here. Toronto is only 9 hours away from Indy, Louisiana is 12. I had
thought of going to GenCon as I'm heading back up north that week, but we
thought it would be safer to just get to where we are going (we have a
deadline) and not spend an extra day on the road.

The paint are Armory acrylics. The Sathar ships used a metallic green and a
metallic pinkish purple. The Human ships used an Armory metallic dark blue,
and I think the red was metallic red from Testors' acrylic (not their more
famous enamel) line.

Allan, you did very well with those not-White-Stars. They were not from
the UK, the are the 'White Dwarf' minis from Studio Bergstrom in Baltimore:
http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Meteor/4155/thumbs/orderform.html
I have some and they are still available for only $0.80 each!

SB also has a Stargate available which could look cool as part of a Stargrunt
game.

This is the famous 'Revlon Fleet'. When I started going back to GenCon in
97 or 98, we had a game for all the GZG-list members who showed up. I
was just getting back into gaming and didn't have any fleets bought let alone
painted (I now have 12 painted and 17 in the que to be painted.) So Allan let
me use his Sathers and I commented on how they looked like nail polish, thus
they were dubbed, the Revlon Fleet.

I thought so! My dis'comfort' was because I figured I could get something
similar; they sure LOOKED familiar. Congratulations indeed!

> This is the famous 'Revlon Fleet'.

Right. I recall the description, as well as my ex having a mascara with the
same colors on the case; the 70/80's aren't quite retro to some of us,
I've
always thought of the Sathar's as 50/60's, but what the heck... ;->=

Course, now I have to mount those weird dos equis bases on FT compliant
dials. ;->=

Ah! I thought they were from the U.K. I couldn't remember where I got them
from! I bought a bunch of figures all at the same time, some from Spirit Games
and some from Brigade. I thought it was from a company that sold through
Spirit Games.

I can understand how distributors can make money. It's all in knowing where to
get the stuff and getting them on the market!

D'oh! I wish I'd thought of it, though Wars of Imperialism seems somehow
more apropos. ;->=

I've actually just finished painting my other 5 tripods and fliers and ran a
DS2 game with them against Shermans and US infantry. It needs a bunch more
playtesting, but I intend to put the scenario on the web eventually, as well
as run it at next year's GZG-ECC if I can free enough time.

It was quite fun, though overbalanced in favor of the martians (they had
shielding that degraded with incoming fire but ended up way too powerful).

Yes, but a game where the humans spend every turn shooting without effect and
suddenly one turn the Martians all die from bacteria doesn't seem to be
much fun. :-)

Anyway, I've balanced it so that about 5 Shermans can take out a Martian
flier. The Martians are shielded (8 points, degrading with any valid damage
chits) but one the shield is gone they die pretty well.

FYI, all, I meant Eagle Games War! Age of Imperialism.

Just in case folks wondered what I was talking about, it's rather like Axis
and Allies, an area game ala Risk 'with chrome'.

Natch, the tripods are what I envisioned, while the fliers were more apropos
to A&A, if you're following the movies...
