There is talk of using some experimental E-bombs in Iraq (EMP Bombs)
that will pump out hundreds of thousands or even a million watts of microwave
(electrical) power to burn out electronics. The method to protect electrical
equipment is to contain it within a Faraday cage which directs the generated
pulse around the equipment into a ground. Can PA be grounded or effectively
shielded? Would PA just be frozen as all the motors and electronics burned
out? What about GEV or AG vehicles?

Since EMP was figured out, they've been working on ways to deal with it in
electronics. We have IC chips that are partially and in some cases fully EMP
proof. They are expensive, but given the supposed cost of PA to begin with,
I'd have to bet they'd figure that was an issue and deal with it.

G'day,
I don't much about the field so you guys will probably pick holes in this
stuff, but here are the rules I've come up with for some munitions used by my
Avalon Inc crowd...
ElectroMagnetic Pulse (EMP) Munitions
A product of Excalibur Designs, the military R&D branch of Avalon Inc, the EMP
bomb releases an intense electromagnetic shockwave (pulse) on detonation. The
warhead uses a sweeping frequency, circularly polarised design to maximise the
efficiency of the pulse. Due to the size of the components, the delivery
systems need to be large, as a result only HEAVY ARTILLERY or aerospace DFO
can use EMP munitions. < NOTE: I have thought about dropping this restriction>
When an EMP round is delivered to a point of impact all units within its
Beaten Zone, except for LINE and MILITIA infantry, must draw chits (using the
following table) to assess the effects of the pulse:
ZONE RADIUS #CHITS DRAWN DAMAGE VALIDITY
Inner 1" 5 RED and YELLOW Middle 2" 3 RED only Outer 3" 2 YELLOW only
All SPECIAL chits are also valid, but all except the BOOM chit (which remains
a BOOM) count as TARGET SYSTEMS DOWN.
Note that EMP Bombs are non-lethal and all vehicles and Power Armour
"damaged" or "destroyed" by these munitions are intact, their electronics have
just been destroyed. LINE and MILITIA infantry are UNAFFECTED by EMP
munitions.
Cheers
Just as an FYI on 'E' bombs and their effects....
Having worked on electronics systems for military aircraft I can tell you that
EMP shielding is pretty standard on all military equipment. It's pretty much
built into the frames. All that is required is 'grounding' the EMP charge to
the frame ground and interrupting the wave. I'm not sure how
'powerful' these E-bombs are supposed to be, (media hype had one 2000lb
bomb
sized E-bomb wiping all the electronics in New York out but I'm doubting
that) but realistically, everything WE and the USSR sold Iraq was EMP
shielded. Probably hoping that the shielding hasn't been maintained.
(Hmmm, my spell check kept trying to replace "E-bomb" with "A-bomb"....
makes you wonder:o)

G'day,

Thanks for that I was basing my rules ideas on the info at
http://www.airpower.maxwell.af.mil/airchronicles/kopp/apjemp.html
I probably misinterpreted bits of it, but it had given me the impression it'd
be pretty tough to harden against everything, but then I don't know much about
this stuff other than an EMP pulse can futz up sensitive fish who get zapped
by it, juts turning my monitor on too close to the tank sends them wild;)
Cheers
