Has anyone worked up any rules for FT/DS/SG for Dune. I just thought I'd ask. :-) (I remembered !)

Zorg,
I own a copy (from the Sci-fi Channel)
it is by far allot closer to the books. I like it more than the cinematic
movie of a few years back. I'd say go for it if it is the full six hour mini
series.

I second that. The newer version definitely follows the story better, although some of the effects and costumes of the first seem better. The longer length allows some of the story plots to be further developed than the shorter movie version. --Binhan > -----Original Message-----

Oddly enough I preferred the film to the TV series - the former had much better battle scenes (IMO, of course). Which doesn't help Mr Zorg, since he's now had two conflicting opinions (sorry !) Tony > -----Original Message-----

I liked the miniseries better. The two odd things about the miniseries are as such. First, the production style is that of a stage production being filmed. Special effects and battle scenes are placed between character and dialog scenes. There are a few fight scenes in the character segments, but mostly knife duels. The other odd thing is that they tweaked some of the characters, notably Princess Irulan, who gets more lines and plays a bigger part. She didn't have much of a role in the series, so they're increasing her invovlement. Beyond those two things it's a splendid adaption of a difficult story. Definitely check it out. They are also doing another miniseries to cover the second and third books (Messiah and Children) which is in preproduction now. > Tony Francis wrote: > Oddly enough I preferred the film to the TV series - the former had

I have the DVD of the Dune TV miniseries. (this is the one with William Hurt that you're talking about right?) It's far closer to the book than the movie from the 80's with Sting. I think it also captures the whole "low tech" feel of the book very well, and if you know any military history, you'll love the Sardaukars' uniforms:) Th downside (maybe) is that it contains mostly unknown actors (other than William Hurt), and that may or may not be your thing. No Patrick Stewart as Gurney in this one:) Personally I liked the DVD very much, since it's got much better picture quality and some extra commentary on all the characters, actors, etc., as well as "making of" videos. I definitely recommend the DVD if you could get it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------- "Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music." - Kristian Wilson of Nintendo, Inc. 1989
