I have a large army of Ogre miniatures that I want to convert into a DSII
force. For the most part, it shouldn't be a problem -- I have tanks,
APCs, artillery, support vehicles, plenty of infantry...the only thing that I
really need are a few Area-Defense Vehicles.
I figure that my best bet is to create an AA module that I can "plug" into
the back of the Combine GEVPC miniature --
http://www.geocities.com/johnxcrim/Graphics/GevPC.jpg -- a flat plastic
plate should fit into the depression without difficulty, and a bit of putty
will hold in place while gaming. I'm not sure how to go about creating the
guns, though...any ideas?
I need to come up with a method that is cheap, easy, and looks good. Ideally,
I'd like to be able to just order some AA turrets from somewhere...but I don't
know of anyone that I can order separate turrets from. Scratchbuilding seems
to be called for, but I cannot think of anything that *I* could build that
would look at all convincing.
Any ideas?

Too bad you can't order individual parts from GZG, the side tubes for the UNSC
SDN work well for this.
There is a site called "The Days of Empire" I believe. He carries alot of the
Starguard stuff. But he sells packs of turrets and detail parts by the pack.
If I remember right, Stan Johanson also sells turret and detail items also. I
myself used to buy a lot a piece parts from Ral Partha but with FASA closing I
dont know if they still do.

Have you tried GZG?...or any of the other manufacturers who cast hulls
and turrets separately, for that matter - most of the ones I've talked
to sell turrets separately via mail order. Jon certainly does - I built
some of my DSII AA vehicles in that way; I don't know about KR though.
Later,
YES, Yes, yes!!!! A thousand times "Yes!"
Yeah, I think I can live with the idea...

You don't have to be French to be a 'frog', or even human!
Nektons - Real Marines! (Die, Ralnai, Die!)
Starguard, Dirtside 2, Ratner's Space Marines, Stellar Conflicts
and Uprisings, and Full Thrust/2nd. Resistance is everything!

Jon,
oh yes, that would be excellent!
I'm thinking of not only converting DS vehicles, but maybe some of the modern
microarmor like GHQ, etc as well.
For a missile-based ADS, you could try using the various plastic sprues
and
stuff sold at model-building hobby shops. A round tube of appropriate
thickness for the "turret" and two "arms" (the launch tubes) of sqaure
cross-section sprue glued to either side. You can spice this up using a
very small round piece with a short rectangular strip on top sticking up
from the turret rear--sort of like a search radar (mechanical, not
phased array).
The only problem is that you have to be very precise in your cutting, as even
small discrepencies in size will look ugly.
Or, you can buy a set of Avenger ADV--I can't remember if that's the
right
name, but I'm thinking of the Stinger/HMG combo on a Humvee (or any
other similar kind of vehicle) and use the turrets...

That is correct. Avenger is the name. GHQ does a
pack of 5 (IIRC--it may be 6). The turret comes as a
seperate piece which you glue into the bed of the
truck. And it's a little one-man crew position with
4-tube box launchers on either side of it and an HMG
below one of the launchers. I'm surprised I didn't think of it, since I have a
platoon of them.
