Subject: [DSII]Painting RenLeg Plastics
> ----- Original Message ----- Although I use a TO&E >that has 4 vehicles per platoon, so they won't fill out a battalion sized unit per box. >Unfortunately I haven't had the chance of painting any of these. (I've been working >on a modern GHQ based force recently with GZG infantry) Does anyone know if >the RenLeg plastics are easy or hard to paint? > [quoted text omitted] Thats a lot of plastic to paint. I painted the ones that came with the Centurion box and they turned out fairly decent. I used some spray on primer while they were still on the sprues (gray I think), then cut them off the sprue, touching up the places where the mini was attached to the sprue. I put on a green base coat for the RenLeg/Commonwealth minis, and a brown one for the TOG. Painted some camo patterns on them and drybrushed with a lighter tone of the base coat. The drybrushing did not turn out all that well. Then sprayed on some sealer (Krylon Matte). The paints were from Ral Partha's Battletech Autumn colors set, and went on pretty good. The primer that you brush on was too thin, so I used the spray kind instead or it would have taken me forever. After I painted them I cut the tip off of a thumbtack, and glued the mini to it, then glued the thumbtack to a primed and painted penny. This idea came from someone on the list. I cut up a handful of floral moss (I think) into smaller pieces and put it in a bowl. Putting some art glue that drys clear onto the penny and rolling the assembly around in the bowl gives the impression that the mini is hovering over some ground cover.
