Subject: [DSII] Infantry basing question

What size bases do people use for DSII infantry? I was
thinking of using 10mm square or 3/8" square steel bases.
I've seen bases about this size (Epic 40K), but the infantry bases in the
rulebook photos look like about
.25"x.5".

Unit integrity distance for infantry is defined as 2" between elements. Is
this center to center:

  +-----+        +-----+        +-----+
  |     |        |     |        |     |
  |     |        |     |        |     |
  +-----+        +-----+        +-----+
     |              |              |
     |<---- 2" ---->|<---- 2" ---->|

+---------+    +---------+    +---------+

|         |    |         |    |         |
|         |    |         |    |         |
|         |    |         |    |         |

     |              |              |
     |<---- 2" ---->|<---- 2" ---->|

or nearest-edge to nearest-edge:

    +-----+              +-----+              +-----+
    |     |              |     |              |     |
    |     |              |     |              |     |
    +-----+              +-----+              +-----+
          |              |     |              |
          |<---- 2" ---->|     |<---- 2" ---->|

+---------+              +---------+              +---------+
|         |              |         |              |         |
|         |              |         |              |         |
|         |              |         |              |         |
|         |              |         |              |         |
+---------+              +---------+              +---------+
          |              |         |              |
          |<---- 2" ---->|         |<---- 2" ---->|
?

If the latter, is there a recommended base size, to minimize imbalances?
(I.e., infantry on 10mm square bases has to stay closer, on average, than
infantry on 15mm square bases, and is therefore more susceptable to any area
effects.)

G'day Sam,

> What size bases do people use for DSII infantry?

Derek uses 0.04" thicksheet styrene that is already pre-scoured for 0.5"
squares for the bases of his bugs and infantry walkers. The stuff he uses is
manufactired by Evergreen Scale Models Inc. For grav tanks (etc) he uses plan
styrene sheet cut to size (slightly larger than the model), with the gravtanks
stuck on fine wire so they appear to "float" above the ground. As
for his infantry, Derek just uses the pre-caste bases which come with
the figures.

Sorry I can't help with your other questions but I don't know much about DS my
self.

Cheers

Beth

Is this center to center[?] Yes. Otherwise, base size matters. Would you want
your oppenent coming on the table with infantry teams mounted on bases, say,
larger than the table? Just so they could claim all the victory objectives at
once by having one
element on all objectives? O_O
Your base size should be what is practical and looks nice.

That's what I figured, but I didn't find any reference to base size or
confirmation of how the 2" was defined in the rulebook, and I wanted to be
sure.

I don't have my book with me, so if what I say is gibberish...

I use pennies for infantry (cheapest base I could find). I place 1-2
Power
armor per base and 3-4 standard infantry per base.

I see your point about basing. I would say that if you use center to center
rules, the center of the base would need to be covered to be effected by area
weapons. If you use edge to edge, then if any part of the base is covered by
the area effect weapon, the element (whole stand of soldiers) has a chance of
being damaged.

I would suggest center to center. If you range from/to the center, this
should eliminate the advantage of having larger or smaller bases.
