Warren, how large is the file you have? What version
of Acrobat / Acrobat Reader are you trying it with?
The store page says Acrobat 5 or later. I assume I'm not the only list member
who thinks version 6 is best avoided.
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/reader_archive.html
Can anybody confirm the size of the file? The store page and IE both reckoned
20Mb, but the file I've ended up with is 14,467,072 bytes in size. No error
was reported during the download.

I just downloaded the file and it opens fine with Adobe Acrobat 5 for PC.
File size is 17,550,656 bytes.
Are you using PC or Mac? From what I have heard, Adobe 6 flirts with
usefulness in the PC version, but the Mac version is only good as a
paperweight.

Thanks for the byte count, Sean. I've just got 5.05 for the PC downloaded and
installed, and it's making an effort to repair my short copy but failing.
I'll have another go at the download when things are quieter. Packet loss to
the store was fairly ghastly earlier today, though my ISP wasn't helping much.
I have the same problem no matter what I download via AOL - (version
3.01 doesn't help of course...) it never can be saved "Until it has finished
downloading" even though it says "done"... I would be tempted to download at
work but currently it's a 3 day leave without pay potential 'holiday' if you
get caught by computer security. And they do check.

I guess I'll give it another try.....

Everytime I download it says "##.# MB of 16.7 MB copied". The ##.# being what
ever the number of MB I've downloaded so far. Last time I've checked 16.7 MB
is a far cry from 17.6 MB.
Sigh... Maybe there's a 1.1 MB taxation for those of us that live in the other
side of The Pond.

That's it. It failed to complete the download on both the 4th, 5th, and 6th
try. To hell with it!

For anyone who is having any trouble with DSII or any of the other
downloads - please talk direct to Paul at <paul@gtns.net> about it -
I'm afraid I can't help, it's all geek to me!! ;-)
Note that Paul is currently away for a few days of Easter holiday, so don't
expect a reply straight away.
Thanks,

17,550,656 bytes *is* 16.7 MB. Due to computers using binary numbers rather
than decimal ones 1 MB is not 1,000,000 bytes but rather 2^20 = 1,048,576
bytes; 17,550,656/1,048,576 = 16.7 once you've rounded to one decimal.

I very much doubt it - more likely a problem with your ISP, since I have
exactly the same problem and I'm on the same side of the pond as Jon.
Paul, would it be possible to break the Dirtside-II.pdf file up into 4-5
smaller.pdf files like the.pdf MT is?

All this makes me feel better. I just downloaded Acrobat 5.0 and will see if I
can get AOL to use it instead of 3.0 (not sure just how but I can try) and get
it to finally 'finish' loading...
Gracias,

Not using Windows or AOL here, but you may be able to download it
bypassing Acrobat (which I recommend) by right-clicking and selecting
download the link rather than open the link. This would avoid the wrong copy
of Acrobat opening and knackering it.

No issues pulling down the file under MacOS X 10.3.3 (Panther) using Safari.
Preview 2.1.0 opens it fine. Admittedly, I snagged it with a DSL connection.
Acrobat Reader 6 is fine under OS X, but very slow to open. It certainly beats
Acrobat 5.... he says, filling in, as he connects the iBook over the network
to the iMac...
No issues either under MacOS X 10.2.8 (Jaguar) viewing using Acrobat
Reader 6.0 - I didn't download it on this machine, because I'd already
done it on the other one.
File size is 16.7Mb or 17,550,656 bytes.

Not in my experience. I've used both versions of Adobe at work on Mac

5.0 works fine (this is using either Panther or Jaguar).
YMMV.

Ah, but that's using Acrobat, not Acrobat Reader....
And I tend to the basic conversion via the built in PDF generator in Quartz,
then try and tweak it in Acrobat 5. Which is a lousy half baked halfway house
between 4 and 6. part Classic, part OS X. I mean in Acrobat (Exchange) 3 and 4
changing a file resolution was easy enough to do, but in 5 I still can't find
it... <sigh>
