Hi all,
Thanks to some sterling scanning efforts by Paul Owen, we've now done
the same with Dirtside II as we did with More Thrust - ie: as it's
out of print (at least for the time being), and there still seem to be a good
number of people who want it (though not perhaps enough to justify another
print run right now), we've put it up on the webstore as a FREE pdf download!
The files are fairly large, so it may take some of you a little while, but you
can get the whole thing, scanned straight from a
printed copy - including the counter sheets (which you'll have to
mount to some card) and even the colour covers.....
I know it's not as nice as a "proper" printed copy, but at least it keeps the
rules available and the system "live" until such time as we get DS3 done...
So, if you've been unable to get hold of a copy of DSII, go to the webstore at
<www.gzg.com> and take a look at the "downloads" page; as I said, it's
completely free, so no problem if you want to print off
multiple copies for friends! ;-)
Hope some of you find it useful; please feel free to forward this message to
any other lists or news sites etc. where it may be of interest.
Enjoy, and have a happy Easter!

Have you considered offering out of print rules like Dirtside 2 through
an on-demand publisher, such as Lulu (www.lulu.com)? At Lulu you can
upload your manuscript in a variety of formats, and they'll print it for
$4.53 per copy plus $0.02 per page. Binding is saddle-stitch for short
works, perfect for larger. 6x9 or 8.5x11 inches, color interior and cover,
ISBN services... That's a pretty good deal, about $6.50 for a
100-page book, plus shipping of course. You can add royalties on top of
that of course.

Thanks!
Cheers,
I've tried 3 times to download Dirtside 2 PDF... And at dialup speeds that's
an hour a pop... Each time when I tried to open it, it said that there's an
error in the file and it's unrepairable (something to thst effect).
:-(

I had no problems downloading it. It could be that you are having a problem
because of limitations in your dialup service. It's not likely a "side of the
pond" issue.:)
If Jon approves, I'd be happy to put a copy on my website in the event that
some folks might find it closer or faster...

G'day,
I'm not too up on this stuff, but what if someone created a bit torrent for
it? Derek gets down a lot of large anime files that way with little trouble.
Alternatively would it be too difficult to split it into multiple smaller
files so its less likely something will go wrong along the way?
Cheers

This is one for Paul when he gets back from his Easter holiday.....

As it's on free distribution, I have no problem with that... but please
include a link to the store site too, as one of the more commercial reasons
for putting it up is to get people to visit the
store and hopefully buy some stuff.... ;-)

Paul, would it be possible to break the Dirtside-II.pdf file up into 4-5
smaller.pdf files like the.pdf MT is?

While John's offer shows marvelous generosity of spirit, Jon's reasoning was
obvious, and I'd think Oerjan's, Beth's, et al. suggestion of just
easier-to-download files is appropriate, especially as it's been pointed
out it's the figs that make the true lucre, filthy or otherwise, for the
company...
Give Paul a couple of days to finish enjoying time off, and I'm sure he'll get
it sorted out.

Yup. I'll let Paul have a chance to get things squared away. Sadly, I cannot
put up a link to the store, else I would. I am the security goon who would
have to come down on myself if I did so...:)

I think Paul may actually be away all this week (taken family off for school
hols!), so don't expect anything to be done till next week (19th) at the
earliest.....

Here's the Forge's experience with Lulu (which seems generally positive):
