Subject: [DS2]-Command/Communications?

Hey,

I was revamping my Battletech to Dirtside conversion, trying to keep it closer
to the core rules when I ran across a question. In redesigning the
Battlemaster I had some Capacity left and decided to put a
Command/Communications System in for good measure. After all it is
called the Battlemaster. The only problem is I can't seem to find where in the
rules it explains what this system does. Can someone point out the page for
me?

Thanks

I think what you're referring to the package to make the vehicle a command
vehicle. After all any battle group needs a designated CO, vehicle or command
post. A tasty target for your opponent and vice versa. See loss of command
unit, page 24.

I once read somewhere a postulation by someone that you could prevent the loss
of command setbacks by equipping your force with more than one command
vehicle. Has this ever come up herew, and was there a rules clarification on
that?

Well my initial thinking on "multiple command vehicles to offset the C&C
confidence drop" was "no, I don't think so". One overall C&C for the entire
battle group. Heck keep it simple. Although, I don't see why you couldn't
organize a battle group with multiple commands. Each command would have a
command vehicle and it's loss would effect only that command. Maybe a good
idea
for multi-player sides. DS is pretty loose, even defined as "generic",
so I'd
recommend any modifications which suit your setting. Good luck - Aron

Actually, the way it was presented was, One C & C vehicle, plus another one or
two lurking around in case, for redundancy. One gets canned, another one takes
over. This was a way proposed to avoid losing the ability to rally
troops, since everything required to do so would still be on the table -

maybe it would just take an activation to bring the 2nd string QB on line.

i kinda like the way Command Decision (WW2 miniatures) handles morale and
leaders. given that each stand equates to a platoon in CD, there are company,
battalion, regiment, etc leaders. they each issue orders to their immediate
commands. if a leader is out-of-action, the immediate group takes a
morale check (but not too severe). commanders may take over orphaned or stray
units with a Take Command order, but only groups belonging to a lower
"rank".
example, a battalion CO could Take Command of a company or platoon, but not
another battalion.

not only does this allow for re-organization but the possible
continuance of a battle. it works well in CD, and pretty smooth in DS2, so
far.
