All the talk about the 'Hammer's Slammers' universe has reminded me of a
question that has plagued the gamers in my area about the 'Dirt Side II'
universe for quite a while. Everyone hang on. Since the NAC is basically the
British Empire and the United States is basically in their domain, are
"American" ships referred to as U.S.S. or H.M.S.? Just curious.
> All the talk about the 'Hammer's Slammers' universe has reminded me
Neither!
NAC ships are prefixed by CNS. This stands for Confederation Navy Ship. Or
something very similar.
The United States and Great Britain and so on, don't really exist anymore.
It's not as if they are nationes within the NAC. There is just the NAC. At
least that's the impression I got. In which case there is only the one navy
and there are no such things as "American"
ships, unless you count the Free Cal-Tex navies, or the League of
Latin American Republics.

We've always referred to them (in FT) as C.N.S. (Confederation Navy Ship).

Damn! There must be some un-reconstructed secessionists in charge
of the NAC to be calling ANYTHING "Confederate"!
And what do the Free-Cal-Texans think of this?

No problem, dude. We're busy making credits and doin' our own thing without
misguided central absolutist authority to meddle in our private space, dig?
Is the NAC a monarchy?

Yes, though very much a constitutional one rather than an
absolute/despotic
type. The Royal Family and the Parliament are now both residing on New
Albion, the NAC's largest prime off-world colony. Each "province" of the
Confederation (the UK, Canada, North America and all the off-world
colonies) has its own legislative sub-parliament answerable to the main
one, and has a Lord Governer as the local Crown representative.

Well, they _did_ break out of the Confederation, now didn't they? ;)

Why on New Albion, just to avoid the British tabloid press? Okay, the title
Lord Governor seems rather, well, uhgghh....
What about Governor-General, just like in modern Canada. Basically the
Governor-General is a representative of the monarch and has to sign all
new legislation to make them into law. (technically at least)
