Subject: [DS] size restriction on walkers

Can someone explain the reason for the size restrictions on walkers (only
available in size classes 1, 4, and 5+ according to page 14 of the
rules)? Is
there some game-balance issue or PSB behind it? I want to build an
AT-ST,
which would seem to me to be size 2, but I'd at least like to know the reason
for the rule I'm breaking. Jed Docherty

I would suggest you go do it! You and the people you game with are the only
ones that matter with reguard to this.

Have fun, this is not GW, and a new super walker will not be out tomorrow.

Bye for now,

Not that I'm aware. I think it was more a reaction to Battletech and
(maybe) EPIC, which were the prominent microarmor-scale games out there
with walkers. In BT, you've got tiny walkers (elementals) and then a pretty
big jump to the 'mechs (though you could probably make arguements
for <size 4; dunno, I don't play). EPIC, you had robots/dreads, and
then Titans (until the Knights came along...).

That's my take on it, anyway. Jon may have other ideas in mind. ^_^

Don't sweat it; that's definitely up there among the "most often broken" list
of rules. (Others including "no more than one firecon on a
non-monster vehicle" and "max weapon size is one greater than vehicle
size" to make tank destroyers and the like.)

There aren't any now. Jon Tuffley said on this list, that you can make them
any size you want. I particular recommend for large walkers to be about
size 7 or 8. Which is what the AT-AT is somewhere near. Size two or
maybe
size 1 is about AT-ST size.

I have you know that super sized seven, quad MDC/4 armed, walker is
quite super in its own way and is all ready out and is just waiting for me
to paint it! :-)

That's pretty much it, really; originally the rules were written so that
players could use their Battletech and and other stuff with DSII. There was
also the heavy Anime influence, of course, where you tend to have either
not-THAT-much-bigger-than-human mecha (a la VOTOMS, MADOX-01 etc) or
else huge 'kin great tin samurai, with not a lot in between. I think you can
safely ignore that limitation for your own designs, and take that as at
least a semi-[OFFICIAL!] ruling! :)
