Apart from using hidden movement until in LoS or exposed by comms or something
I've never really succeeded in getting it right in a straight GZG game. Using
something like Piquet cards could reintroduce it I'd say.

Cheers

Actually, I'd buy the GZG interpretation of things for DSII. The advances in
sensor technology and introduction of cheap, disposable drone ensure that the
fog of war will probably not be as confusing as it was in the past. The
problem will arise in information overload. How you ask? Try playing
Dirtside II as a brigade-level game.

Haaaack, SPIT! I played a Piquet game once. The Rennaissance version thereof.
My fscking archers shot ONCE in the game, and it was when the enemy was about
twice their MAX (not effective) range away. And then THEY NEVER RELOADED. The
WHOLE DAMN GAME. I lost the fscking battle because in Piquet, it takes an ACT
OF FREAKING GOD to RELOAD A LONGBOW. Oh, and I spent 5 VERDAMMT TURNS trying
to get my lancers to change from column formation to something resembling a
combat formation. So by the time they were in the fight, they were completely
enveloped.

It goes to the other extreme--from having total
control, you have NO control. It's all about the goddamn cards.

I still think there's a place for it, especially in some scenarios with mixed
tech.

> Haaaack, SPIT! I played a Piquet game once.

Its one of the systems you love or hate - especially if you only try it
once. Impetus swings aren't uncommon and some gamers have come up with ways to
tame them, but for me its half the fun... are they going to get to do what
they want, its not assured, neither's anything else in real life... that's why
it can REALLY introduce FoW... and feelings of helplessness (especially with
my dice!!);)

Band of Brothers?? Well if it makes you feel any better it is getting a
rewrite for a new edition;)

There are also some attempts by members of this list (there's actually quite
a few GZGers on the PK list) and other gamers to mingle GZG (SG/DS/FT)
and PK together and they can be a lot of fun. Not hard to grasp either seeings
as DS inspired the way PK handles dice etc.

Each to their own

Yeah. But I've NEVER read of a historical battle where the archers fired once
and didn't reload. (NOTE: Not Crossbows). And I'd like to have some influence
on the game play. All you get to do with Piquet is the initial force selection
and deployment. After that, it's ALL luck of the card draw. If I'm just along
for the ride, then what's the point?

Its effective fire over a decent time period kiddo, not just a volley of fire
fullstop;)

> And I'd like to have some influence on the game play.

Its not just like that, but you don't learn how to cope with it all unless you
play a bit more than once;)

But like I said each to his own.

And before the Beast jumps on us probably best to take this offlist if you
want to keep jumping on me about it;)
