Hello all,
I am delurking again to ask if vehicles carrying infantry teams must count
them towards their weapons limit. I thought not and I don't remember seeing
anything about it in the Dirtside rules. But when I plugged a vehicle design
for a size 3 vehicle with 2 weapon systems that carried 2 units of infantry
into the vehicle generation page at
http://www.cs.utk.edu/~cowell/min/ds2/gen.html it said: 'ERROR: ** You
may not have more weapon systems (counting mounted infanty) than your vehicle
size class! **'.
I have looked at a few DS FAQs on the net but have seen no mention of this.
Have overlooked something in the rules or missed an important bit of errata
somewhere?
My initial interpretation of the rules was yes, but common sense prevailed &
only the heavy weapons (HEL, RFAC, DFFG etc) & extra APSWs count as 'weapons'
for construction limitations. Personally, I only count the heavy weapon mounts
& use APSWs (SAW, MLP, AGL etc) for SG to match weapons to my models. (As long
as it doesn't mount 15 APSWs, opponents usually don't mind).
Hmmm....
Very Sick Assault Vehicle
Size: 3, GEV, 3 APSW + free APSW & APFC, 3 x assault infantry stands.
Close assault infantry or other tank units & watch them die due to inability
to return enough fire.
(This combo draws 4 x 2 chits & 3 x 3 chits for about 140-180 points)

No, they don't. There was a post (from Mike Elliot?) on the list that
suggested that infantry teams count towards the weapons limit. That suggestion
has crept into this vehicle designer program. I was going to include this
suggestion in my FAQ, when I realised that this suggestion meant that
important modern day vehicles couldn't be modelled well. So I've left this
suggestion out.

Ahhh, thank you for the info. Is there any chance that Andy Cowell reads this
list and will correct his otherwise nifty Dirtside vehicle generation
page? Or am I the only one who uses it to double-check designs?
Speaking of designing Dirtside vehicles, has anyone come up with a Excel
spreadsheet for building vehicles that I could get from somewhere or someone?

I've got an Improv spreadsheet that works really well. Unfortunately, it can't
export its formulas to Excel. I've also been working (well actually I should
have been (you know, it's Christmas and then New Year (I'm making excuses!)))
on a vehicle designer to go with my site. I'll let you know when it's done.
