My experience is that infantry need to _hide_ in cover
until an armor unit comes within range to be effective. Their limited mobility
and range makes them better at ambushing and defences, IMO.

This theory is based on only one game so far, though. The infantry were
organized into two platoons: (1) 2x Rifle, 2x APSW, and (2) 2x GMS 2x Rifle.
The GMS platoon was dug in urban terrain, but took fire right away from
walkers and lost both GMS teams. The remaining Rifle units lay low though, and
took out one walker with a IAVR. The second platoon never got into combat.

While putting together a OrBat, I've come up with a question though. Do you DS
players out there base your infantry units' size on a certain number of
vehicles or on a set number of elements? Eg: I have 4 IFV's in my Mech.
platoon which lets me carry 2 elements each for 8 total. But I often prefer to
only have 4 elements in an infantry platoon. So I could
reduce the number of transports to 2/platoon since
that's all the space I need. Thoughts?

Second question. In Real World (tm) armies, if a unit of grunts is being
supported by a unit of tanks, how is the chain of command resolved? IIRC the
US does not combine armor and infantry until the division level is reached. So
would you find a platoon or two of tanks supporting an infantry company if
it's not a division sized engagement?

Change the design; drop the capacity to 4 points (1 FT) and either make a
smaller vehicle (drop one point on PDS or something else) or add a GMS/H
or a PDS/Superior or even cargo space...
