I've been trying to design Ground Attack Fighters, and find it's one of my
weaknesses. I have a hard time deciding how to arm them. How many different
types of air assets do most people use, and how do you arm them? Since they
can only carry up to a certain class, MDC's's aren't quite as

formidable as they would be on an MBT that can sling a class-5 gun. For
a
futuristic grandson-of-an-A-10, a DFFG seems plausible, but it does
require an up close & personal touch that might be iffy from an aerial POV.
GMS/H's
seem a natural choice, but it means both the weapon AND it's platform are
vulnerable to the same ADS. DFO's seem too limited in duration, I'd rather
deliver those kinds of ordnance via arty (IN THE GAME, disclaimer).
Suggestions? Anyone have any designs they use that Particularly float their
boats, or preferrably SINK their ENEMY's?

I tried the GMS route initially, but quickly found what you point out that a
well placed ADS is a compounding problem.

The most interesting luck we have had with air assets so far as been with good
old fashion DFO. It almost just another arty strike, which is never a bad
thing, and you do not have the observer issues to deal with. You do trade this
for ADS and LAD risks, plus it is of "limited duration" as you pointed out,
but it can keep you opponent guessing. Plus, the image of a nice drop of
napalm (or its GZG equivalent) spraying out over the battle field and your
opponent is a good pick me up.

One option I've considered is using a vehicle (VTOL or ground) with large #'s
of GMS to take out ZADS vehicles, since few people I know load a PDS on top of
a ZADS on the same vehicle (Myself excluded), and you can overwhelm an ADS.
But that requires a special "ADS Killer" and that gets into a loop too.

I was thinking of SLAM's, has anyone tried that?

I've actually put some thought into what to do about fighters to penetrate
enemy zone ADS. The last couple of games, I've generally just stuck with
ground artillery, but I've often thought of the idea of having a few
fighters equipped heavily with GMS/H forming a first wave. If they have
ZADS, the fighters fire those missiles en masse from outside the ZADS range.
The ZADS' effectiveness will be diminished against missiles, and if it
penetrates the ADS itself, the ECM is basically nonexistent. If the missiles
successfully destroy the ZADS, the fighters can fly through without much
further worry.

Once this first wave of fighters has managed to destroy or at least severely
dampen the enemy's ZADS, the next wave, armed to the teeth with DFO, can come
through and carpet bomb with a fair amount of impunity.

G'day,

The guys here have made quite a sport out of having a GMS heavy vehicle or
plane take out my ZAD walker and then DFOing my Daleks to bits;)

Enough... especially if you hit the suicide Daleks which then explode
themselves... we had one game where I ended up seeing an entire convoy go up
domino style;)

Beth,

Have you ever considered adding a PDS to your ZADS walker?

Tricky problem, has anyone done rules for decoy systems. Can I have say a
dummy ADS at a quarter of the cost just to sit there and look like the real
thing? We need something, the thought of all those young fit Daleks getting
slaughtered is playing on my mind:)

As far as I know no ones covered this explicitly, but I'd assume that decoys
as such are covered in the ECM roll anyway.

The Emperor Dalek is touched;)

Don't lose too much sleep, the Daleks just start throwing NUKES around to get
