I know what I'm about to say may be sacrelage, but has GZG considered making a
book for Dirtside II that is analogous to the Fleet Books of Full Thrust? Such
a book would contain stats for the various miniatures that GZG produces and
would also add some character to the various powers. For example, perhaps the
FSE ground forces contain a lot of missiles, or the ESU goes for quantity over
quality. What would Kra'Vak vehicles be like?

Considered, some would say promised. Tis an old wound you're picking at,
and has never healed. Even many of us pure vacc-heads think it's due,
but there's always other considerations for the saintly one.

Tell you what, create your own, post it that you many suffer the slings and
arrows of outrageous critiques, and maybe you'll have started something
rolling. Bon chance!

That would be a great idea. I think that the pure genericness of the system
might be a bit daunting to some, particullarly the "pick up and players".

War! What is it good for? Er.....gaming

I used to play Challenger (modern era 1/300) and the Army Lists were
invaluable, even for pick-up games. The vehicle stats and C&C
organization were all predefined. Just pick an era and a point value and
you had a well defined force ready to go. Great for pick-up games.

I'm sure someone else will tell you that it's a "long time coming" so I won't
say that. What I *will* say is that paper products are pretty far down the
list of
things to do. Makes sense though-- lead is the money maker. Doesn't
mean I'm happy with the situation but I understand it.

My suspicions are that the fact that the DSII items aren't identified as
specific to 'nation/race' is another thing. With specific ships, the
fleet books became a way of promoting sales of them.

However, running 6 or 7 variations on each vehicle IS logistically nightmarish
without a HUGE fan base, and Full Thrust has a leg up on that score.

Wait, if you throw in UN, Japan, IF,...

Ah, to be a bug on the wall while Jon's working out the production/sales
numbers!

But I wonder would a fan-inspired set of web pages be openly accepted by

the owners of DSII? Like the various fleet sites that post some various
interesting FT designs.

You must be new here. Jon Tuffley is here and has repeatedly given permission
for websites that list new designs, as long as the details of the design
sequence are not posted. In other words, as long as you don't give enough
information for people to design their own ships or vehicles it's all fair
game.

I would *love* to be involved in that project! And with three or four vehicle
generators available on the web, it wouldn't be too difficult for people to
scratch out some designs in short order.

I think the generic-vs.-specific argument is one that might catch us up
a bit, though. Like someone else mentioned, all the Dirtside/Future
Wars minis are labeled only as to what they are, not which faction of the
Tuffleyverse they belong to. Still, it would be fun to do up stats for them
and fill in the fluff later.

If anyone needs a vehicle generator, here's the one that I built up from Aron
Clark's excellent Excel design:
