G'day all Delurking for a bit,
I've got two questions about vehicle construction after rereading the rules.
1. Is the cost for GmsL and GmsH (2 and 4 cap respectively) on pg 16
for fixed mounting only or is it the same cost if I mount them in a turret?
According to the description on pg9 these are size 1 and 2 weapons and should
cost 3 and 6 capacity pts if mounted on a turret.
2. Does the Command/Communications Systems (cap8) include space for the
command team like weapon/artillery systems which are assumed to have
space for the crew/gunners or do I have to spend 4capacity pts for the
command team and assume the Command/comm system only has space for the
comms/computer operators and equipment.
The construction system does need a bit of a facelift.
Thanks

It doesn't seem to say that in the rules. But I do as you assume: fixed
mounting, 2 and 4 capacity; turret mounting, 3 and 6 capacity. It works great
for simulating M113 with turret mounted twin TOW launcher (Turreted
Twin GMS/H -- 6+4 capacity = 10 cap. Just right for a size 2 vehicle).

I've assumed that the command team are inside this, and if the vehicle is
destroyed, they get killed as well. Perhaps the rules for vehicle crew could
be used? It's something that's not come up in my DS2 games.
BTW, check out my site for other neat DS2 stuff.
Greetings!
1) I always assumed that GMS launchers were a special case like ASPWs; that is
you do not have to pay for a turret. Reasoning: Being a guided weapon, a
turret is unnecessary as it will guide itself to the target whichever way it
was initially pointed. So, putting it is a turret gains no game benifit. I
know the text mentions vertical launch versions of GMS.
GMS seem to be a special case all arround. If you make a GMS/L a size 2
weapon, then it draws too many chits (3 instead of 2). It also ignores
the size of the target, but has to deal with ECM/PDS. Seems to be a
special case all arround.
2) I would assume that the 8 points for the C&C was 4 points for equipment and
4 points for personnel.

As to class size and leftover cap points I think a simpler fix would be
to allow those unused cap points to be used for ***non-DF weapons#
and/or non-weapon items*** (increase armor, add a PDS or LADS on a AFV
***that lacks one currently***, etc., with the latter optionally costing
1+the usual capacity cost of the system - although I like it unchanged).
I haven't worked out the additional armor but I am sure someone else has
ideas. <grin>
Except for a class 5 AFV armed with 5 GMS/H's - leaving 5 unused cap
points, I remember all my early paper tests of the game only had 1 or 2
unused cap points /as a rule./ Besides it gives that size one recon
with
a turreted Hel/1 (or weapon of choice at class-1) a chance to add a
LAD/PDS (basic) but (not in my mind) a GMS/L since that is (essentially)
a DF weapon. GMS/H armed systems (2+ GMS/H's) always seemed to have
left over cap points....
For 3 unused cap points? an enhanced PDS or a basic PDS and an LAD...
For 4 unused cap points? Besides cargo? <GRIN> a basic PDS and a LAD OR a
Superior PDS OR an enhanced PDS and (an additional APSW OR an APFC.)
For 1 unused cap point? a APFC or another APSW (yes it gives a size-1
vehicle "3" weapons but 2 are APSW so it doesn't, IMO, overly power the
vehicle in AFV-AFV action.)
Should there be a limit on additional APSW? Maybe but I cannot see the
advantage except in a particularly specific "Infantry Killer" AFV - and
Arty is so much more useful IMO.
This still keeps the main DF weapons to one for a class-1, etc.
I won't extrapolate for size 2 and above but I think it would allow some
quirky personalization of AFV designs (I do these always in a 'national' or
'race' specific setting.)
My dos centavos.

It is the same no matter what you mount it in. That's why they have their own
entry, separate from and immediately after the "All
direct-fire weapons" entry, in the "Capacity Requirements for Vehicle
Weapons and Systems" table.

Yes. IIRC you can't even dismount the command team from its command vehicle
(or move it away from an emplaced command post)...

Agreed.

I've just checked the page number reference - its on page 11 that it
says something like "these rules apply only to direct fire weapons, other
systems such as GMS and PDS only pay their basic capacity cost", this is in
the section about capacity of turreted weapons.
