Hey all:

I'm in the market for a digital camera, and I'm thinking of going with the
Fuji FinePix 3800. Wanting to get a hang of the technology, I burrowed my
mom's FinePix 2800, which is more or less the same camera with a greater
resolution potential. Since I want to use the camera to photograph my minis, I
tried some tests with a few of my figs to see how they would turn out. Here
are the results.

Looks good, Mark. Nice depth of field all around, especially with the larger
Marine figs, and pretty good colour & light balance.

Try taking some pics outside, in sunlight. Most film (digital cameras too,
I bet) is balanced/biased toward sunlight, and just using that balanced
light can make your pics even better. See my two SG2 Galleries, especially the
25mm one:

Those are from a partially overcast, not very bright day - sunlight
really is the best option for closeup work. (short of very, very expensive
studio
lights...)

I've got another batch of 25mm stuff to photograph sometime soon, along
with a horde of 15mm Aliens-aliens...

Seems to give a very good picture, and those Ogre minis are especially clear
and sharp.

I've been using a Fuji FinePix 1300 myself, wth very nice results. CompUSA had
it at half price a few weeks back, so it may well be worth looking for it.

Hi Mark,

if in the market for a digital camera or photo printer, you may want to check

Indeed they are.

Oh, let me revise one of my previous statements. The FinePix 3800 has the
better resolution, about 3.3 megapixels, while the 2800 has just over 2.2
megapixels.

Not bad, Mark. Your UNSC marines are underexposed, but the other pictures look
good. Your painting is very good!

If you need a light source, I suggest that you look into getting photography
lamps (if doing this a lot) or photographing outside. You can pay a
_lot_ for
photo lamps; mine were made for about C$50. It consists of a regular light
socket, an aluminum shade that screws onto it, and the socket itself attaches
to a standard tripod (though you can buy inexpensive tripods for lights). The
lamps are expensive, at about $5 a light bulb that lasts 3 hours (make sure to
turn them off when not using) but the results are excellent.

One other thing... your e-mail is going out with your name listed as
"Mark A. Siefer". Is this deliberate, or did the "t" on the end get truncated
or left off?

G'day,

I know me too's are generally frowned on, but in this case I'd like to break
that rule and say

"I'll second that!!"

Very nice!;)
