Subject: Couple more questions for FT.....

Hi all,

Seems like I am always asking something lately--just getting into FT so
am asking questions as they arise.Appreciate everyones help on this.

1. How do you model Q-ships in FT? Have been reading naval history and
sci-fi where these type ships appear and wish to try them out.Figure in
FtF
play one player records which one is the Q-ship but wonder how I would
do this in solo play.Plus I have a scenario idea or two that incorporates this
ship.......

2.Also looking to model 2 types of weapons from Trek DS9:
the Breen energy dissipator--did find a reference for it , but anyone
have
any rules/suggestions for this weapon? Have an idea of how to model it
but want to check here to see if already done.....

Cardassian orbital satellites--cannot remember much about these but do
remember the Fed and its allies had trouble with these while invading
Cardassia Prime. Can anyone jog my memory on how these worked? Any
rules/suggestions for FT use?

3.Does anyone play with fighters using them as individually, while also
involved in scenarios with capital ships? ( using cinematic movement also)
Wish to try each fighter as own individual craft like capital ships instead of
by squadrons......my idea is to have fighters with either one armor box and
one hull box,and possible option for level 1 screens.

Again, thanks to everyone for helping out the new vachead.

Please don't hesitate to ask. We all started there.

> 1. How do you model Q-ships in FT?

There are no stock Q-ships in any of the books. You
have to build your own.

For basic Full Thrust II (FT2) see pg 28 col 1. In summary you end up flying a
military vessel with half the normal hull boxes.

Examining the revised construction rules in Fleet Book 1
(FB1) I can't find any provisions for Q-ships.

Extrapolating from FT2 you would need to specify a FRAGILE or WEAK hull (no
more than 25% of MASS) and you would need to allocate possibly a further 25%
of MASS to cargo which translates into fittings to conceal all the nasty
armaments.

> 2. Also looking to model 2 types of weapons from Trek

Cannot help you with much after TOS, and that's largely limited to humour. Is
it true that Shatner's toupee changed several times over the various series
because continuity couldn't get the same breed of hamster?

> Cardassian orbital satellites-

Satellites get a raw deal under Full Thrust. Under FT2 bases can only commit
50% of their MASS to systems whereas system defence boats (ships lacking FTL)
can commit 75%. You do however get the tasty AA batteries if you play More
Thrust (MT) which is out of print but available as a PDF download from the GZG
store site.

Under FB1 anything that can't maneuver is dogfood for
salvo missiles. There are no limits on the class-4 (old
AA) battery beyond the MASS requirement, and more heavy weapons come in with
Fleet Book 2 (FB2), some of them with unlimited calibres.

You need a house rule to make these satellites work.
If no-one else chips in a good idea, go back to your
source material and devise one yourself, but be warned that it will need
playtesting before you can use it!

G'day,

> 3.Does anyone play with fighters using them as individually,

Sounds a little like the very small ship idea that has come up here a bit.
Can't help you with the individual fighter bit, but fighter design wise you
might find some inspiration if you look up multirole fighters in the list
archive or have a look at Jared Noble's stuff
http://www.homegame.org/siefert/uftwwwp/files/fighters.htm

or you may also find the following ramblings based on discussions from the
list and my own demented ideas helpful (bottom of the page).
