I was randomly surfing, looking for a website that had ship type designations
for the US Navy, and found this little gem. Thought it might be of use to
someone on the list besides myself.

No, I was just trying to figure out what the fuck an 'LSD' was since I hadn't
heard that particular term for a landing ship. It's been bugging me for a
couple of weeks now, since I thought I was pretty well up on the nomenclature
of the various ship types, particularly those from the WWII era.

LSD => Landing Ship Dock.

ie has an open stern with a floodable section for landing craft.to
