While searching for Tomb's soul is a big draw card this is the one that is
really digging home the fact I will miss another ECC, made all the more ironic
by the fact this time I'll only be 400 miles rather than half a world away!!

On day I may be able to pass this time of year without going green with envy

G'day,

While I appreciate the encouragement I'm pretty sure I just can't do it.

1) I will be in Columbus Ohio (which according to mapquest is about 400 miles
drive... assuming I drove mapquest right...) 2) I rather foolishly never got
round to getting my licence (I can drive from growing up on a farm, but a
licence just kinda slipped through the cracks) 3) I looked into flying and it
will cost me roughly $450 US for a one way airfare and Derek and I don't have
that kind of spare cash right
now. If anyone knows how to track down a cheaper one let me know - I
don't need a return flight (unless that's a condition for a super cheap fare)
as I'll be flying home to Australia afterwards and work has covered that. If
on the other hand there is someone in the local area heading in the right
direction I could help on fuel etc;)

We don't have anyone signed up for the convention from Columbus, OH right now.
Brian Bell is from Columbus, but he hasn't attended ECC for a few years.

Mike Miserendino attended last year and drove out from Indianapolis.

The other Ohio folks are coming from the Cleveland area.

Greetings all,

I've been lurking here for some time now, not really having had much input
since NW Ohio is a gaming wasteland - except for GW :P . But I've been
debating whether of not to attend ECC this year (missed last year). If you
would like to go, Beth, that tips the scale in favor of going this year.

It's not really out of the way to go through Columbus instead of taking the
turnpike. If you want to go, I'd be happy to pick you up.

Squads? I think you might want an updated briefing. It was a Narn
Assault Bat-talion and a Narn orbital artillery Bat-tery, when last I
heard. Check with Tom and Adrian, they were the ones who were planning to

Oh dude! You've so gotta come... and that's coming from someone who has to put
the real value of this thing in perspective.... I normally got to cons that
are like many times (hundreds going on thousands) the size of
this con. And I'm like 6-8 hours away! (Hey Chris)... I went last year,
and I had a blast... it was fun spending the first time just walking around,
watching people play... and getting a glimpse of the friendships this list
harbors... I even met a few people from the list and talked to them...
something that was way cool... why, it was going to ECC 7 that got me to
actually join the list... and while I haven't been vocal since then... the
feed back I get from the occasional post is great....

And yeah, I'm sorry for not having posted the Space Whales... I still haven't
had time to write them down... however, I have expanded the ideas just a
little to include "Etherwhales, Voidsharks, Solardolphins,
Star-Eels, and ... yeah, bad joke... Gamma Rays".

Well, hopefully you can make ECC 8 this year, and get in on some games. IIRC
only a few have filled up, and sometimes there are ways for the GM to open up

B'sides, if you get in on some games, you can see how things there

Right, because Allan o' Southfens, his caber, and his paisley bagpipes were

if anything Beth-related had happened there, which it didn't, it would

This is something I can't figure out. Why does Beth need to get to JFK? I
would have thought that the most direct route to Columbus would have been
Australia to LA, then from LA to one of the big central hubs: Houston, Dallas,
or even Chicago O'Hare.

I'm not sure why JFK should even enter into it, unless she's planning a
different outbound leg than inbound (as it would be faster to fly from JFK to
LAX than to drive back to Columbus and follow the reverse of the route she
took to get to Columbus).

My itinerary will have had me bouncing all over the US for 3 weeks already so
I really don't want to have to follow that route back out again;)

LA Boston Providence Key Largo Miami Columbus
JFK/Dulles (whatever the poor travel lady can manage to figure out works
best) LA or San Francisco Hawaii (if San Francisco exit)

And this is ignoring all the little and interesting airports I get to
sprint through to make connections mid-leg ;)

You can technically get a "direct flight to Australia from NY" twice a
week, but that just means you still go NY-LA-Oz, but without the need to
change planes 3 times between NY and LA;)

Allan,

She stated she was going to fly back after GZg and that her work was picking
up the tab. She was not sure at the time whether Dulles or JFK would meet her
requirements. Ijust stated that I could ensure she grts to JFK so she knows
that if that is the requirement she can meet it.

It may make more sense for her to do something else. If so I am sure she will
say thanks Magic and she can be on her way.

I am just standing by to assist as needed.

True. We _had_ intended to go to GenCon, but they scheduled it for what
will be Logan's first week of Grade 1, so that's out.

> Have faith my dear boy whenever a door is closed a window opens ;)

It's highly unlikely I'll get to an ECC. The winter is just not a good time of
year to drive all the way from Louisiana.

As to a couple of other things:

There may be a way to turn off the winmail.dat transfer, though if you only
got that attachment because you used the web interface not using that might be
your best option. Ironically, you only sent that one attachment. There are
still folks on the list (glares at Glenn *grin*) who send HTML along with
their messages. Those can be a real pain to read when using the GZG digest.

Flying out of JFK now makes sense! I didn't realize you were hopping all

over the country. That's going to be a fun trip for the travel agent to sort
out! At one point I was hoping you'd end up around our neck of the woods, but
the major airports around here are all still about 5 hours away by car.
Monroe, Louisiana: 5 hours away from somewhere you'd
