Why do you northerners insist on having these things in the dead of winter
when I would have to come away from the warm Florida sun and freeze my tuckus
off? How about summer time when I
want to get away from the hot Florida sun and lightning-filled
daily thunderstorms (I hear one approaching now)?:)

Why people who move to Florida think that March is the "dead of
winter"? As I recall, at GZG-ECC III, we were all walking around
outside the hotel without jackets. Many people were wearing shorts. It was so
warm, many women in the hotel were wearing nothing more than bra and panties,
even in the lobby. But back to those mutants who "live" in Florida, why do
they think we care if they think it's too cold? I mean, they live in Florida?
Does the US even claim that as a state? Do people under the age of 65 actually
live in Florida? I thought it was just a place to send our old people. <g>

It's because of all of us Canadians and our insidious influence over
GZG-ECC. I've got Mark and Jon in my power, and our secret conspiracy
will soon have dominion over everything. (Don't you know? We've got Jon
Tuffley immigrating to Toronto next year.)
And a big (8-) for the humour impaired. (8-)

As a former Pennsylvanian I can say March weather is a wonderful crap shoot.
You can get temperatures in the 90s or a blizzard. Glen be brave you went
through all last night without rolling all ones once :-}

While I am not in on the decision of when the convention is run, I believe
that the answer comes down to seveal primary factors: 1) First and foremost,
money. The GZGECC is, greatfully, placed in
off-season. This allows the participants to use thier gaming dollars
better (buying from the vendors). 2) To avoid conflicting with holidays and
vacations. The convention is usually placed in a timeframe away from the major
holidays and away from the normal vacation times. I have a sporting intrest
that ALWAYS plans an event for Mother's day. This keeps me from participating
every year.
3) Off-Gaming-Convention-Schedule. Being placed where it is also helps
avoid conflict with other gaming events (Gen-Con, Origins, etc.). I
appreciate not having to make a choice about which one to attend based on
schedule (I still have to make one based on cost; which is why GZGECC wins
most of the time). I for one appreciate all the work the organizers do to
provide such an excelent and unique gaming experience. Three Cheers!
These are all valid reasons why GZG-ECC is scheduled for
early in the year.
We try to maintain at least a two week schedule difference from Cold Wars,
also in Lancaster. Some of the ECC attendees also attend that convention.
We also get very reasonable rates with our current hotel. Our current room
arrangements are ideal for a gaming convention. It allows us a lot of
flexibility in table arrangements.
