This isn't the interpreted goto-line_number mess Basic was in the eighties. Can you name some useful functionality ANSI Pascal has that VB doesn't? Java holds promise, but I've yet to see anything really useful done with it. I fear security considerations will cripple Java as a truly useful application platform -- AFAIK Java interpreters are not standard part of any mass market OS (read: Windows, sadly). The one in your browser doesn't count, it can (should) never provide full functionality due to security concerns.
