Just got back from Cold Wars and I have to say that I recognized (and spoke
to) quite a few ECCers. I couldn't help but think that perhaps
we should get an empty table at Historicon (and/or Cold Wars) to play a
game or two.

Or, heaven forbid, we actually run a few events.

I think I sent this message from another account as I didn't see it get sent
to the list so here goes again. Forgive the dups if the original get sent.

I went to Cold Wars this last saturday and I recognized (and talked to) quite
a few ECCers. So I just can't help but suggest that perhaps some of us should
try to put on a few games at Historicon in a few months under the guise of
boosting attendance at ECCs in the future.

I don't think the Historicon folks would have that much trouble with it
as I've seen SciFi/near future games being played at both Cold Wars and
Historicon.

Even if the above never happens I think we ECCers should meet for a game at
Historicon as I think it would be quite fun to get a GZG fix in the middle of
a Historicals convention.

Cold Wars and Historicon are historical wargaming conventions put on by
the Historical Miniatures Gaming Society - East (HMGS-East). They are
in early spring and summer in Lancaster, Pennsylvania (just a few miles
from the GZG ECC site) and draw in the neighborhood of 2000+ gamers for
the weekend. They also have a fall convention, Fall In!, but the
current/upcoming location is Gettysburg. Of the three, Historicon is
the biggie, Cold Wars is 2nd, and Fall In! is the red-headed step-child.

Cold Wars was this past weekend (where ECCers Jerry, Damo, John L, Stuart and
myself all ran into each other at one point or another; this was my first
visit to Cold Wars, and yep, it's markedly different in scope than
ECC ;-)

Historicon is slated to be July 21-24

Fall In is scheduled for November 12-14

Not sure if I'll be around for Historicon. May be around for Fall In.

While I'm not the type to say "all X are Y" I will say that if all Fall Ins
are like the one I attended I'd just skip it.

Perhaps it was the location (Timonium) but it just sucked compared to the two
Lancaster events that year. They have since moved back to their old location
so it may be better though reports from my local historicals group kind of
hints towards the negative.

You run a game there and I'll show up...then spend too much in the dealer
hall...again.

Heck, by then, we might have something ironed out to be more playable.

Unfortunately, this is the last year that Fall In will be at Gettysburg.
Next year they're moving it to the Lancaster Host. I'm going this year -
it
may be my last chance to feast on the Farnsworth House's game pie - but
I will not be attending any future Fall Ins.

I'm going to just miss it then.
I'm going to Origins, then Tusmit/Ket Bordercon (in Canada) then the UK.
Dates just don't match up.
