I had a friend once get so mad at his lousey rolling that he threw a six sider
at the table as hard as he could, which broke the die clean in half (both
haves fit back together really well), the funny part is that after that we all
rolled really well for the rest of the evening, like he scarded the rest of
the dice into behaving or something:)

What about my!@#$@!$!@! Dalmation Dice?

Background: I've got 36 dice, small, with little dalmation spots all over
them. Perfect for games like Shadowrun where you can roll hideous amounts of
d6's, and they work just dandy.

I discovered at the Con that they do not like Full Thrust, at all. It got so
bad that I used other people's dice, and then I had other people pinch roll
for me, with other people's dice. People will testify to the bad karma I had
with those damn things.

I think a little remedial training is in order. (8-)

Trying to bring this thread back to GZG (8-): All this argument about
dice makes me wonder what 'tools' do you bring to a GZG game? Do people have a
'lucky' tape measure or turn gage or set of dice that the bring whenever
possible? Do you expect the person hosting the game to have most of the
supplies you need on hand, or do you bring your customized set?

It would be interesting to find if there was some sort of informal 'etiquette'
when it came to minature gaming. For example, in RPGs, everybody has their own
bag of dice it seems. I also heard from a friend that a friend of his really
bought into SPW and GDW wargames, where you get those little D6es; so he ended
up with a couple dozen of the buggers. Whenever he lost, and he thought it was
the dices fault, he would take the pair of dice he used, and beat them with a
hammer until they were nice and shattered.

I would expect that everybody would have their favourite set of dice,
but you know what happens when you assume things. (8-)

I had some camo dice for a while. Those buggers were so damn hard to see that
I ended up giving them away (probably didn't help that
I'm color blind - things got real bad under incandescent bulbs).

> I think a little remedial training is in order. (8-)

Maybe they just need some R&R? I had a friend who worked on the theory
that dice had a certain number of "charges". He used to get _REALLY_ mad
if he caught people rolling his dice without purpose.

> Trying to bring this thread back to GZG (8-): All this argument about

I definitely will bring my own set of dice, as does everyone I have met yet. I
also bring some models that I know I'll never use in a game. Sort of like
mascots, although they rarely leave my case... Other stuff I like to bring is
terrain. You can never have too much!

> Whenever he lost, and he thought it

By any chance is he the kind of guy who throws his golf clubs when he misses a
shot? Or breaks his bat when he strikes out? I would never get upset if I lost
only because of poor dice rolls. At least then
you don't have to admit that you're a horrible tactician ;-).

> I would expect that everybody would have their favourite set of dice,

Well, I do, so no worries about that old saying ;-).

Night 'fore last, one of the fellows at the local gaming store was in the
midst of a tourney round(40K tourney with 32 entrants; eat your heart out, GW)
when one die started exhibiting particular nasty behaviours. He took the die
to the front door, pitched as hard as he could into the parking lot across the
street. Then, turned back to the game.

Less than five minutes later, one of the other regulars walked in, saying,
'Look at the die I just found in the parking lot!' The player calmly walked up
and asked to look at it. When he got it in hand, he walked back to the front
door, screaming something about cursed things. This time he made certain to
toss it into the grassy park next to the parking lot.

Me, I'm waiting for it to re-appear, monkey paw-like.

P.S. To the folks that wrote me direct:
No, I won't sell/trade just the figs from Kill Zone, but I have a few
loose figs I'd so consider, whenever I get my continuingly expanding want list
completed. However, have you seen the resin figs that I think were of the
same figs? Grendel-made? I believe Grendel is gone, but those also
surface now and then.

P.P.S. No apology is due me for the NE confusion. In the case of the
brou-ha-ha about 'London', England seemed obvious when I noticed the
original poster had a.UK address.

P.P.P.S. There IS no P.P.P.S.

And don't forget temprature. My dice don't roll good unless they are hand
warmed. Anything less than 90 deg. f. I always have to hold the dice (cuddle
them? I hadn't thought of it that way) for an extended period of time before
they roll correctly.

> Trying to bring this thread back to GZG (8-): All this argument about

I always bring dice (you can never have too many). What else I bring will
depend on what I am going to play. I usually bring my FT ships in hopes of
running a spontainous game. If I know that I am going to be in a specific
game, I usually bring a rule book or two (these are always in short supply).

I have a friend who uses the same technique with golf clubs. He has a vast
collection of crappy old clubs and whenever he misses several shots in a row,
he breaks a club over his knee and leaves it in a crossbones configuration
next to the trash can:) Doesn't seem to intimidate the rest of his clubs much
though:)

As for dice, the most abusive we get is to toss the little buggers across the
living room, which also subjects them to being cat toys for a while.
Settler's of Catan is the worst game for generating dice-hate.

To quote an old line "looks like his karma ran over your dogma."

Or your dice are a bunch of dogs when it comes to FT.

Or back to the main stream of thought (?),
1) one or two three-foot tape measures.
2) Dice. 3) Starmats. 4) Genaric ship SSDs.
5) Any SSDs of my own making/special ship SSDs if I am hosting the game.
6) Ships as required.

You don't say... Siedlers von Catan is the only game I know where 6, 7 and 8
are the least common combinations on 2D6. Over the course of three games, 3, 4
and 11 turned up roughly twice as often as 6, 7 and 8...
