For those of you who are running Full Thrust campaigns; how are you handling
ground combat if you aren't using DSII? At the moment we are simply saying
that if you control the system then you control the planets, but that is
rather unsatisfying. I thought maybe a combination of the Starfire ground
combat system with Module M from SFB. I really don't want to go into the
detail of DSII however. Any suggestions?

DS II is the most popular with most of the people I play with. However, I am a
battletech kinda guy. Since dropships on a planet are about as powerful as at
least two companies, I just use the rules in MT. All assault mechs or vehicles
are class 5 vehicles etc. It keeps the space part of the campaign with a fully
Full Thrust flavor, and eliminates the need to keep track of Battletech
Dropships on the ground. The problem with this is who ever controls orbit
controls the planet. We have come up with a number of ways to deal with this
(but thats a whole 'nother story).

http://www.bifrost.demon.co.uk/Planets.html gives some ideas
for planetary assualts without leaving the domain of Full Thrust (so no actual
ground combat, just orbital bombardment and defence, but it's relatively
simple).
